New ACHS Security Measures

We need metal detectors.

A lot of these procedural changes — such as limiting the number of students in hallways and staggered dismissal — should have been in place when the school year started. The school is just too big. Period.

Yep. I hope they rethink schedules and create more staggered options for next year, given ALX refuses to ever consider a second high school no matter how large ACHS gets.

If the fight was just a group of kids needing mental health care, why these measures? That is what ACPS and leadership say. Parents, teachers, and staff deserve to know what the undercurrent to this is, and if it is organized, violent gangs we are owed a serious conversation and a serious strategy.

Sounds like they are finally taking things seriously. I am sure they are concerned that someone or a group might start something in revenge or to avenge.

I am concerned about this as well.

Metal detectors are not the answer, unless you add an xray machine. Students today carry computer and smart phones.

Just read an email from Balas. The rest of the school year is now asynchronous unless you’re a senior that absolutely must be on campus to meet a graduation requirement.

Covering up the reasons for this, just like the MH rape.

Wow, unbelievable. Were there credible threats of more violence? Unreal that some kids will once again finish a school year without setting foot in the building. ACPS a complete unmitigated disaster.

So I am not in ACPS. But I didn't realize there were four campuses? What is the difference between the campuses? How is it broken up? Like which students go where? I realize this is slightly off topic, but I am curious.

ACHS main campus for grades 10-12, Minnie Howard for 9th, the Satellite Campus by Braddock Road metro for students that need an alternative schedule (my neighbor's kid went to this one, she needed an accommodation for mental health reasons and took 5 years to graduate, worked extremely well for her and now she's thriving at a very well regarded university).

I don't know what the 4th campus is.

The 4th campus is Chance for Change:

Basically alternative school for kids with disciplinary or behavioral issues that need to be out of the main school.
