I definitely think Blair would see CE as a stepping stone to Governor. I’m actually a 2018 Elrich donor and will vote Blair this time. My issue with Elrich is that while I appreciate his authenticity and good governance approach (he’s incorruptible- which is the developer backed Riemer faction hates him), he’s a poor leader and as a result the council has been setting the agenda. I also think it is vitally important to have a geographical political realignment in this county. The only people in this county that seemingly feel well represented are the Takoma Park/Silver Spring folks and this is a huge county with many different and competing interests. Elrich gets that, which is why I like him. Unfortunately the majority of the council does not. |
He’s actually a very nice person. Just been doing this too long and is out of touch. |
So why does he lie so much? |
I’d like to know the answer to this question too. Lying comes so easily to him, especially when he’s raging against Marc Elrich. |
|
Recent polling shows that Riemer is hopelessly behind and he is also out of money. He has no chance to win and the only thing he can do now is spoil it for Blair. But if he helps get Elrich re-elected doesn’t that negate the whole animating purpose of his campaign?

It’s a bit like how he undermined Jawando’s ZTA. He doesn’t seem to believe in anything more than he believes that he should be the one doing it. Very narcissistic behavior. |
| Why is Riemer still fundraising. Considering that he has no chance to win, isn’t it unethical to ask people to continue to donate to his campaign? |
Riemer set the cause of more affordable housing back by maybe a decade because of his own ego. If Jawando’s ZTA had passed, developers would be delivering some multiplexes by now. That’s shameful. Riemer also submarined the DTSS and adjacent communities plan by supporting Hucker’s proposal to remove almost all of the adjacent communities. Why? Because Riemer, like Hucker, knows he needs the Woodside NIMBYs to win. Riemer will always do what’s best for Riemer at any given time. |
| Wow, I actually agree with Riemer on this debate tonight, particularly on police. Elrich has run the department into the ground. Not sure Riemer would do better, but at least he has the issues right. |
Hans "ban SROs from schools and defund police" Riemer has now remade himself into someone else? Typical Hans. Changes his stripes as the political winds blow. |
Yes, he has. He still goes after the police union but suddenly supports police management. |
|
Interesting that he and Elrich just got together on the electrification thing. I smell an announcement coming.
Was probably going to vote for Elrich anyway, despite his housing policies sucking; we didn’t get to 91% vaccinated by accident. Riemer seems too much like Arne Duncan. Been there, done that. |
Probably the only real Hans Riemer political belief is his hatred of unions. It’s been a consistent theme throughout his career. |
I saw that. I’m going to guess that Elrich will give him a do nothing job at the county “green bank” in exchange for him dropping out and endorsing Marc. Probably nothing worse for these guys than letting someone from outside the TPSS nexus assume power in this county. Makes more intent on voting Blair. |
He needs to start supporting police. His son is entering high school next year and he needs to see that Black teen boys are at the highest risk of being victims of violence. Everybody hates on police when they should be trying to prevent community violence. |
