Take her to the right dermatologist. We tried everything DD short of Accutane but spirolactone not only cleared up the acne but healed the scars too. Minimal side effects.

Another vote for spirolactone. DD started that with Epiduo-forte topical. Works really well.

Has anyone heard or known of any negative side affects of Accutane?

Our pediatrician wants our daughter to go on birth control before using Accutane. Is that the normal process?

Yes it’s a requirement the the doctors are pretty strict about. The plus side is my mid teen daughter developed a nice relationship with her gynecologist.
No she’s not sexually active and came off birth control after the Accutane, but now she’s knows the routine so to speak if she needs it later.

I had bad acne and went on BC and....holy crap! Went from 10 pimples on my face or so to a full back, chest, and face COVERED in deep, cystic acne that caused scarring. Didn't touch hormonal birth control for 10 years. Tried it again in my 30s and same thing, my then generally clear skin just exploded in acne, so YMMV.

I tried Proactiv in my 20s and it was life changing. It actually worked and I finally felt like I had good skin. I wish I would have had it in my teens.

No, a teen girl doesn't need to go on birth control, she can also check the "abstinent" box.

What are you not understanding?

Not all derms require BC if teens aren’t sexually active.
