What it actually shows in the cartoon: nazi Germany Z29 destroyer

Thanks. Wow, prescient.

The conversation in the cartoon, after the robot shows the “Z29” letter on the ship:
Boy 1: all clear. fascist destroyer.
Boy 2: how do you know?
Boy 1: I read about it: fascist destroyers were designated with the letter Z.

No wonder it’s getting scrubbed from all russian programming, it’s calling a spade a spade. They have been shouting how everyone in Ukraine is nazi/ fascist, to discover that they are using a nazi Germany designation on their equipment.

Putin using the Z designation has been weird to me from the start. Cyrillic doesn’t have a Z like that—the z looks like a 3. I haven’t seen any real explanation for why he has been using Z. Maybe he got punked by some history geek in his own government.

For brand sustainability. To keep the brand recognition when they move next to Poland or Baltic states.

Why do you think they will be able to move to Poland or the Baltic states? It’s a nonexistent threat. Russia would be lucky to move more than km in to a nato country. It would be a slaughter.

I did not say they will do that this year. But if they do have victory in Ukraine, the war will not stop there. 3, 4, 5 years down the road, there will be another. How long do you think will russia need to power up its military, if there is victory in Ukraine, some form of peace agreement on russia’s terms, and eventual weakening of sanctions?

Also, this is what russia’s recent history seems to indicate. A war every 6 years or so.

Please. Russia is done. No one wants to do business there ever again. Would you patronize any company involved with russia? Kiss your customers good bye unless they are russian.

It will be done when there is real change in the country. When archives even on soviet atrocities that are still kept secret in moscow are opened, when those responsible for Russia’s atrocities in Ukraine and elsewhere are put to trial, including the propaganda journalists and media. Until that happens, it’ll continue as is, and it’ll find enough people and countries to do business with it. Heck, even Europe continues to pay for oil & gas.

That is Adolph Putin for you.

Time for regime change in Russia.

Z for zapadni (western)? Still makes no sense to me why they wouldn’t use the Cyrillic z instead of the Roman Z though.

The people who've been most influential in Putin's inner circle, egging him on to invade Ukraine, are leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church.

My admiration for the Pope who spoke out on Easter is soaring, and for the leaders of the Russian Orthodox Church plummeting. It's clear they are a nationalistic arm of Putin, not an ethics based community.

Yeah, that genocidal thinking that Ukraine and Ukrainians as a people shouldn't exist is coming from the Russian Orthodox hierarchy. It's really sick.

I am not so excited about the pope either with the gimmick of a russian and Ukrainian women carrying the cross together during the procession. It just felt too premature with the ongoing bombing and atrocities that were happening as the procession was ongoing. That, together with Vatican’s eagerness to comply with russian demand to pay for gas is rubles just left me off vatican (and a few other pre-war issues).

Really good article on the schisms going on within the Orthodox church right now. The Russian Orthodox church spread influence in recent years by seeding money abroad, including in the U.S. A number of U.S. parishes are refusing to condemn the Russians, much to the dismay of their Ukrainian parishioners. Money corrupts everything.

I don't wear black robes and a big funny hat but even I am qualified enough to say this: Anyone promoting death, destruction, kidnapping, rape, torture, murder and burning villages to the ground is a false Christian. These Russian Orthodox church leaders are scum and complete frauds.

+1. it just really puzzle me when I saw it. a Z is the last letter i would have used because it looks so much like a half swastika. if anybody wanted to make a movie about a distopian Nazi-like regime they would likely use a symbol like Z . plus it can be easily made into slogans like "looks like a Z, acts like a [swastika sign]" or something similar. really no good PR, but presumably Putin does not care or is actually happy of the Hitler parallel

The parallels cannot be a coincidence
