How much have you spend for same day COVID testing bc of your private school's COVID rules?

Kids have had symptoms that kept them home from school, which appeared after the testing that week. Needed to take them to sameday for testing a few times but I didn't choose the expedited one, so it's fully covered by insurance. Test results are available within 24 hours even if you don't pay for rush service.
The need for testing was because kids had symptoms and they need to be 24-hours free of fever or vomiting anyway to return to school. So you have test results by the time the kid is ready to return to school. Don't send your sick kid to school!

Yes but PPs are paying for one hour so they can do the test first thing in AM and then deliver kid to school same day rather than waiting 24 hrs

No, I'm keeping kid home one day, testing later in the afternoon, and then hoping to send the following day.

I've heard similar from two friends (both with kids at a Big-3).

Curative and Same Day both charge for testing. Do you mean that your insurance covered these tests?

In MoCo, I've never paid once for Curative and I've used it many times. I did provide my insurance.

OK, first of all this is in Boyds, MD, which is a haul from the Big-3 schools. No one is driving out there and back. And second, this is not the 1-2 hour rapid testing. This is 1-2 day results. Sure, you may get your results sooner, but you could wait for up to 48 hours to see if your kid can return to school.

But there are curative locations in VA that are just over the bridges. They say 1-2 days, but except when things were crazy in Dec and Jan, you reliably get the results overnight. It's free. If you are spending money out of pocket, you are doing it for your own convenience of a closer site or 1 hour turn around. It is absolutely possible to get a free PCR after school and have the results by morning.

We are in DC and it takes 3-4 days for the free PCR test.

Administered by Curative? I have no doubt that there are some that take that long, but if you look and are willing to drive a bit, you can get free and fast. There's a Curative at the JCC in DC too in addition to the Arlington, VA locations.

Right. If someone wants to take their kids with runny nose to school within the same day, $175 seems to be a fair cost. Otherwise they can just do the $75 test with 16 hr turnaround while waiting for their kids' symptoms to disappear. The school is already being nice to not require tests for strep or flu.

Maybe next year the school can simply raise the tuition by 1500 and offer free off-campus tests -- then nobody will complain.

Takes 15-30 mins for rapid antigen nasopharyngeal test. And $25. Tons of schools and countries accept those.

Even though masks aren't required anymore, she reported that all of her friends are still wearing them. Maybe that would help others reduce any sorts of ailments that trigger testing?

We’ve heard all about your DDs classroom where all the girls are shamed and bullied into wearing masks inside all day in class. Plus heckles the teachers to give her more space in the classroom. Well done. Curious what your family catalyst is or will be for taking masks off at school ever?

Are you talking about the take home PCRs from the library/community centers? I always get my results back the next day.

If our Big-3 school accepted antigen tests, that would be wonderful. But it doesn't. That's the whole point. You need to get a PCR test to return.

I've been using the Capper Community Center location in SE and get my results back the next day if I drop off in the morning.

Same Day Bethesda has a $75 rush fee. Insurance covers the test, but not the rush fee.

Sounds like overkill to require PCR given current phase of pandemic. Yes, at other phase, of course.

This, a kid with a runny nose should be home regardless of covid.

The home tests are not always accurate.
