How much have you spend for same day COVID testing bc of your private school's COVID rules?

I did have to spend $$ for antigen tests to get my DD (age 17) allowed back in school after she got COVID.

For my younger daughter, it was her sports team that required us to use Sameday Health in order to compete in a few events that required a negative PCR test within 2-3 days of the competition. I am sure that I have spent $1000 (because each rapid test at Sameday is $250.)

Friends report similar or more, especially if they have multiple kids at the school. (This is a Big-3 with very strict COVID protocols.)
Although we can afford it, I am wondering if schools have taken into account the cost of this testing, and how it disproportionately affects lower income families. If you can't afford to spend $250/test so that your kid can go to school the next day, that means that 1) your kid has to stay home until the free testing results arrive (e.g., the PCR test kits available at the DC public libraries); 2) parents might have to miss work (if they can't work remotely).
Our school seems to have stuck its head in the sand with regard to these costs and its disproportionate impact on lower income families.

You are annoying.

Zero. DD still wears her mask in all public situations so she hasn't had any sort of symptoms or non-Covid illnesses that would warrant testing. Even though masks aren't required anymore, she reported that all of her friends are still wearing them. Maybe that would help others reduce any sorts of ailments that trigger testing?

Do you have insurance? Even at $150+ same day PCR test sites, I’ve haven’t paid a dime.

Zero, covered by insurance.

My DD went her entire Junior and Senior years with nary a sniffle. She got that from me. Some people just don't get sick very often mask or no mask.

Zero. We have yet to need to get tested. School has no testing requirements and we've never been sick.

Our school accepts antigen tests. DD was out of school the other day and missed testing day. I just used the antigen test we got free at the library, gave it to her, and emailed a photo to the nurse adn they cleared her.

If you need PCR and you're in MoCo, just use teh county sites like Curative. There's so few peopel getting tested that you'll get results in about 24 hours anyway.

$0

Two different MoCo schools, K12 and K8. I think each of my kids has tested out of school once, one Same Day and one at pediatrician, both were covered.

We had Same Day Georgetown testing covered by insurance, but NOT the really rapid one (the one you get the results in 1-2 hours).

Different insurance plans have different coverage. Ours rejected many of the tests cited

Alexandria health department mailed me an at-home PCR test. Not antigen. We had been out of country but I didn’t know this was an option.

Our school has tested PCR weekly with 25 hour results for nearly 2 years and our cost was $0. It was covered by insurance. They worked with a company that did it on campus and billed direct to our insurance with the proper codes . I would not be ok with 1500 expense!
