PP here. Jewel of India is owned by the same owner of the old Woodlands in MD. Still has all the great vegetarian dishes plus some great chicken and fish dishes! |
Every time I go I see Indian people eating there so I guess they like Westernized Indian food too. |
Came here (a day late ) to say Haandi, and see several already have. Love!

| OP, where did you end up going and how did you like it? |
I like Rasika and have been several times, every time when it was suggested by an Indian or Indian-American person. |
With Rasika, the palak chaat (crisped spinach app) is okay but they are so racist against Indian people, I won't go on principle. The 1-star reviews are from Indians and Indian-Americans. The complaints of second-class service happen to Indian people. Tastes may vary, but there is no excuse for treating brown people differently. |
| Bombay Bistro in Rockville. Love them for carry out (restaurant itself is very small). And Commonwealth in Pike and Rose is great too. Rasika is nice for the ambience, but I don't think their food is as great as other less-fancy Indian restaurants in the area. Bombay Club in DC is better if you're looking for a good night out kind of place. |
I loved their weekend brunch so much! In fact, our last restaurant meal before the world shut down was Woodlands brunch- I had snapped a photo of my toddler noshing dosa and now it comes up every March in my Google photos feed.
At one point they were operating a "ghost kitchen" out of Jewel of India (which we like too) but not sure if that's still the case. |
I miss both Woodlands and Udupi so much. |
I'm Indian and always recommend Rasika to white people, because I know that they will like it. But I never go there myself. |
| The main reason I don't go to restaurants like Rasika is because I'm vegetarian, and I know that I can make their vegetarian entrees as well as they can, for far, far less money. So it just doesn't make sense. I'd rather go to a type of restaurant where I can't make the food. |
