Do you use scent beads and/or fabric softener for laundry"

No way. I hate laundry having artificial scents.

We use regular detergent, Lysol laundry sanitizer, the scented beads, AND dryer sheets. DH does the laundry, so it’s his deal.

I use them on bedding. I love getting into clean sheets that smell like detergent. It's super comforting to me. I don't use them on clothing tho.

Same. I buy one or two large canisters of the scent beads for only bedding or clothing that I’ll store at the end of a season.

Otherwise, we are pretty much an unscented household.

The beads are so messy and pro tip: don’t always dissolve in short wash cycles and or get caught in seams and don’t dissolves

Anonymous wrote:I use unscented tide, oxiclean free and unscented dryer sheets because I was raised in an upper class white household. This is a cultural thing and I try not be judgmental but I genuinely have a physical aversion to scented laundry and while I like to buy second hand, especially kid clothes, I spend a lot of time trying to soak the perfume out of them.

What works best is oxiclean first and then vinegar. Soak in a bucket overnight for both stages.

IDK what that has to do with upper class, although perhaps age is a factor. I grew up working class, fabric softeners were around (liquid form when I was a kid) but my mom never bothered with it and personally I loathe the slick feeling fabric softener imparts on fabrics, never mind the awful scents. I actually hang most of my laundry (in the basement, where I keep a fan blowing to help reduce wrinkles and speed drying time, although I do have a clothesline, I just don't care to be lugging wet laundry up the stairs) and have for most of my adult life.

I do unscented everything and strongly dislike the smell of any scented detergents and the like. But, I really like the Trader Joe's lavender dryer sachets - they have real dried lavendar and the smell is faint (and less so when used over time). I'm a little self-judgy about it, but it truly sparks joy for me.

I use white vinegar rinse in the wash and dryer balls. During the pandemic I tried to make my laundry room prettier so I got a few jars like this and used one for wool dryer balls, one for lavender dryer bags (from Trader Joes that I use on guest sheets) and a few sage bundles, and one that I decant Oxyclean Free in. I also got a super clear plastic caddy at Container Store and put in a few bottles of Dr. Bronners lavender (which I use to clean house). It makes me so happy.

I don't know if this is the size I got, but I got two sizes in this type of jar. I also use one upstairs and unwrap bars of soap and put them in there, so it looks nice and we can easily grab one.

We never used to but then inhereted tons of baby clothes when our son was born that had been washed using dreft. We very quickly began to associate that smell with our son that we ended up buying the dreft scent beads and using them occasionally on loads. The smell evokes a sweet point in life for our family so it's nice to sort of surprise each other with it sometimes.

This is why I can’t use Pampers. I hate the smell.

We do not. Read up on how Febreez or Crisco became household names and be strong - the whole point of the marketing is to create a habit of using it and establish olfactory memories. A lot of those scent products are hormone disrupters or respiratory irritants and and really bad for young children.
I say this as a person who loves, loves, loves how clean clothes are with regular tide powder but can’t tolerate the smell.

I like regular Tide powder and Downey dryer sheets. I don’t think it’s a class thing—be serious!!!!

I use 1 pod in the washer and nothing else. I do not like heavy scents. I guess I do not know what I am missing with the other products.

If you get it at Trader Joe’s it’s okay.

Just add oxiclean to liquid Tide. Same difference.
