Oh F off. So you’re going fire a bank teller who makes $35,000 a year vs a big time movie producer because he couldn’t use words? Double F off!

You're an idiot, which explains why you are so offended by an idiot being fired. Solidarity! This is very clearly a fireable offense. He did use words. Do you not understand that written words are words? When the goal is to be discreet about how much cash you're being handed, shouting it through a medical mask does not work. He did nothing wrong; she did at least three things wrong. So yes, fire the guilty party and not the victim of her idiocy.

The bank teller was black too.

His actions were suspicious.
How so?

Banking while Black.

The workers in the bank were POC too. How is this racism?

The teller is a pregnant black woman. Do you still want her to be fired? Isn’t the mistake she made - and it was a clunker - the exact sort of thing an affluent white bro would be given “another chance” for?
Absolutely. And I'm a Black woman and I always ride with Black people, especially Black women. But that doesn't mean I think we are above consequences. This line of work is not for her. Black people have been fired for much less.

I forgot to add, one thing that I installed in my two black sons is don't ever expect to be treated as your white counterparts. You will never. We can't afford to expect that kind of privilege.

^^ Excuse the typos.

There has to be some context we are missing because otherwise I have no idea how the teller could make this mistake. I am not excusing her but hers seems really really odd reaction (like, besides all the other good points made here, why would a bank robber tell you to go elsewhere to count money - wouldn’t they want to keep you in eyesight otherwise you would just call for help when you step away?).

Btw, I am 55 years old and grew up doing a weekly errand with my mother at the bank every Saturday morning, and my aunt is a former bank teller, and I had no idea you could request to do your bank business in a private office.

Apparently he didn't either. The officers asked him about this and he said he has always done his baking transactions this way and it's never been a problem for him. But going forward, based on this incident he will now consider contacting ahead.

A lots of assumptions are made here to blame the bank teller:
She had his ID.
She was into his account.
The withdraw slip was filled properly.
The withdraw of $12,000 triggered an alarm note on her screen.

She was doing her job. BoA should do better job to train their employees.

Eh… yeah… but he also handed a note, like a bank robber.

are you white? Go hand a similar note to a teller and see if you get arrested.

White woman here. I always ask the tellers to be discreet when I take out large sums of money (I don’t want to get robbed on my way out).

I have never been arrested and they follow my directions.

My guess on why he was treated differently is because he’s a black man.

It sounds like the teller didn’t believe he was who he said he was (sun glasses, hat, mask). Presumably someone like a manager could ask him to remove his mask and sunglasses to confirm his ID? That seems reasonable for a >10,000 withdrawal. Calling the cops is strange for suspected identity theft.

I'm a different poster, and I am black. Black people can have prejudices against people in their race. It's extremely common. It's essentially how we view people.

The police investigated and said the fault was with the bank teller. You either believe that or you don’t. But yes, like any place of employment the blame doesn’t stop with the worker bees. Someone higher up is in hot water for this too.

Agree - walking into a bank dressed like a bank robber probably wasn’t the best idea. LA - winter hat, hoodie, sunglasses.

The White man in the bank at the same time had a coat and hat on. The police officers all have coats on. The other man in the video you see outside towards the end had on a coat and hat. Try again, Karen.
