How many years does this have to happen before anyone cares? I am going on 5 years of how much registration is such a S*&%Show.

They clearly don’t care. They’ll get someone’s money either way. My kids are in high school and college and it was still a sh1t show way back hen.

Yup, its a problem that lasts for about 2 hours. The camps fill up either way. They don't really care which particular kids get in.

DGAF sports. And you are wrong.

No I’m not. I have a 20 year old— I’ve been doing this since 2008. Only camp I’ve ever seen fill up the day of is the gymnastics.

LOLOLOL Tell us more about the olden days.

We are in double digits on waitlist for Outdoor Adventure camp.

We're #45 on the waitlist for the 16 person spy camp

We’re 74. And live across from one of community centers hosting it.

How do you tell what number you are on the list?

Different poster- I've been doing this since 2012 (my children range from 7 to 13, and so I'm still in it) and have been waitlisted many times the day registration opens. It really depends on the camp.

Does anyone know how to take yourself OFF waitlist? It doesn’t matter for us, but might help someone else. (We gave up on 1-2-3rd options)

I think you unenroll as if you were in. I just signed up for a second camp the weeks we were waitlisted. That’s why the waitlists actually end up moving quite a bit.

Serious question--why doesn't the county, instead of trying to beef it up more and more every year (which doesn't work), have a queue system I've used for countless other popular sign ups (like Hamilton tix). Whoever is logged on at 7 a.m. gets assigned a random number in the queue, and they only let a certain number of people into the site at one time. You don't have to sit there for 2 hrs, because they email you when you're getting close to your turn to register. I bet it would be faster than the current system. And more fair, since it's randomized.

Because the people who work for Parks and Rec probably get early enrollment so they don't have to use the system when everyone else does. Otherwise it would have been fixed YEARS ago.

I don't think Arlington parents want it to be fair and randomized. They want to be the one who gets a spot. The current crashing system that takes forever favors people like me who can sit in front of the computer for 2 hours while their spouse gets the kids where they need to go for the day. I didn't love the experience, but my kid is enrolled in a camp for every week I need coverage this summer now.

I am also surprised how quickly things filled. I expected specialty things like wilderness, fishing, gymnastics. I didn't expect to be waitlisted for rec play at my local elementary school!

Our replay camp has twice the number of people on the wait list than there are spots. Is there anything we can do to increase capacity?

The mismatch between supply and demand is incredible. If you look now, every single Recplay camp is full along with basically all of the specialty camps. Even most of the large sports camps are completely full right now!

Has anyone done the half day soccer camp at Kenmore before? We live nearby and only need half day the week we enrolled. It is a big open field with no trees though - not sure how that'll go for 3 hours in late August...
