| If a finalist attends an Ivy, he gets no merit money or scholar status unless he is a top finalist and gets picked by the foundation. |

I know it's late in this conversation and we're in the final days of college decisions, but has anyone felt a bit of a discriminatory status towards students being eligible for scholarships by being in the DC area with so many of us who work for the government? It seems like the scholarships are geared mostly to students of families with a parent who works at one of the companies.
Also, amazed at how hard college admissions has been this year for our top students. |
Spouse and I work for private companies in the DC area, neither of which sponsor a NM scholarship. Very few companies do. You are not alone. |
That's one of the scholarships - Corporate scholarship. That's the way it's supposed to be. |
| DD was selected as a scholar to receive $2,500 but she also received a full-ride from the college. What are we supposed to do with that $2,500 - just donate it to her college? Such a strange problem to have. |
That’s on your kid. |
UF, FSU, UT Dallas, U of Oklahoma and ASU. |
Yes, entirely true in DMV area. |
| I got mine back in 1991. |
The student gets a small scholarship from a random company. I got $1,500 every year from 3M. |
None of the Florida schools offer full rides to out of state students anymore. All the Florida public colleges fall under the Benaquisto program. This year it changed and is no longer being given to OOS kids. Just want to put out correct info in case any NMF are looking at those school. |
Can they put it into her student account for incidentals like books, pizza, printing, field trips etc |
At my kids school they stack the scholarships. The total can’t exceed the listed cost of attendance. So the $2500 comes out of that. We don’t get it back. Most places don’t let you “double dip”. |

USC gives half tuition and honors dorm.
One of the best deals for National Merit Finalists. My kid took it. |
