So where is the equivalent for all the parents who want to comply with local health guidance and not have our school act the scofflaw? Are you planning to use your town hall to get loud and then pretend everyone agrees with you?

Local health guidance is going to end mask mandates in another 10 days. Good for them to get in front of it. ADW should be ready to drop masks the moment moco drops the mandate in all indoor spaces. Regardless, private schools are not under the same guidelines as public schools with regard to masks.

But it’s the Archdiocese of WASHINGTON as in Washington DC - not Baltimore or Arlington. Like it or not DC is where you have to look for health guidance. Last time you all tried this petition it was an absolute fail.

ADW schools in MOCO do not have to wait for mask mandate to be dropped. There are private schools in MOCO that have already made masks optional and it is perfectly legal due to the fact that private schools are not part of the indoor mask mandate.

How long do you feel kids need to cover their faces? Seriously. There is suffering. Luckily in Catholic schools there is a sense of community and love and the kids have been more resilient than public schools, where we are witnessing a severe mental health crisis brought on by a multitude of things like isolation and, yes, masking. But it is happening on a smaller scale and is only a matter of time. Time to let children start to experience normal social interactions with their teachers and peers.

+1 Catholic schools have been amazing during the pandemic. my kids are thriving. they've never had a covid test. or had to quarantine. or had to listen and experience the endless fear mongering in this area. they've been in person since september 2020. now it's time to let them unmask and move on completely.

What a lesson to teach them to move on with their own carefree lives while others around then suffer with illness and death.

Surely there’s a Bible teaching someone in here…

I think the lesson is to not have a small minority of people drag down and punish everyone else. And impose their mental and health challenges upon all others.

That’s not what Jesus says to do.

You have no idea, do you. Not sure why the “must maskers” think that appeasing their unfounded fears is a priority. If your child needs to mask, please do so. Fully support your choice and you should support the choices of others in this regard. Selfish of you to demand otherwise.

Agree. Hopefully teachers have a choice to unmask too!

Spoken like someone who doesn’t care that one of our colleagues at our DC Catholic school recently passed from COVID.

Yes and this school also has a pre-K class with several kids too young to be vaccinated. Pushing for this is so selfish.

This school can choose to keep the mandate.

I’m sure they will considering the circumstances. I imagine people will feel more comfortable dropping masks once the youngest kids can be vaccinated and vaccines are required - which they will be in the Fall.

No, but they generally are obliged to follow guidance issued by the ADW school office or superintendent or whatever. Now they may well advise that mask mandates can be dropped per county guidance...or they may tell them masks are still to be worn, per ADW schools guidance.

And some Catholic schools of course are not "ADW" schools, they could do what they want I guess.

Yes, as does the DC requirement that all students are vaccinated by the Fall.

A DC private that already requires vaccination should be allowed to drop the masks now. The masks add little to no value.

You are partly right. They are obliged to follow ADW guidance, however, ADW is not obliged to follow county indoor mask mandates. The issue will be moot once the county's mandate ends on Feb. 21 anyway. I have a high confidence ADW will drop the mandate by the end of February. They are feeling a lot of pressure from parents.

You are also right that the schools that are not ADW can do as they want -- and they are. Good Council and Georgetown Prep are both dropping their mandates.

Yes in DC per the mayor’s order. And a silly ADW petition like this one can’t do a thing about it.

Mayor Bowser just put out an order today specifically stating that masks will still be required in schools after March 1st.

Really, I know Catholic schools are able to opt out of other vaccines.

Really? Which schools? Which vaccines? Which jurisdictions? Which dioceses? I’d love to know where this is possible.
