ADW Mask Policies

Not saying to shut it down, people are free to discuss, but can we consolidate all these into one and/or slap a health warning that these are likely organized agenda-driven trolls with talking points posing as concerned mothers?

It’s misleading otherwise.

I can assure you, I am a real life mom to two kids in an ADW school and I want the masks dropped, as do many parents in our school.

How long do you feel kids need to cover their faces? Seriously. There is suffering. Luckily in Catholic schools there is a sense of community and love and the kids have been more resilient than public schools, where we are witnessing a severe mental health crisis brought on by a multitude of things like isolation and, yes, masking. But it is happening on a smaller scale and is only a matter of time. Time to let children start to experience normal social interactions with their teachers and peers.

+1 Catholic schools have been amazing during the pandemic. my kids are thriving. they've never had a covid test. or had to quarantine. or had to listen and experience the endless fear mongering in this area. they've been in person since september 2020. now it's time to let them unmask and move on completely.

What a lesson to teach them to move on with their own carefree lives while others around then suffer with illness and death.

Surely there’s a Bible teaching someone in here…

I think the lesson is to not have a small minority of people drag down and punish everyone else. And impose their mental and health challenges upon all others.

When each side of an issue thinks the other side is crazy ....

So where is the equivalent for all the parents who want to comply with local health guidance and not have our school act the scofflaw? Are you planning to use your town hall to get loud and then pretend everyone agrees with you?

Local health guidance is going to end mask mandates in another 10 days. Good for them to get in front of it. ADW should be ready to drop masks the moment moco drops the mandate in all indoor spaces. Regardless, private schools are not under the same guidelines as public schools with regard to masks.

People are OK with following the public health guidance when they say no masks or masks optional. Dropping it before or trying to bully your school or the ADW into violating public heath guidance before then is just foot stamping tantrums.

sorry the people who want to keep kids masked forever aren't organized

Your silly quips just make you look sad. No one wants to wear masks forever. Just following the guidance, which is evolving and changing with the tide of cases and vaccinations.

BINGO!!

We are already at a point where masks can come off. Our community is over 90% vaccinated. Omicron is mild. High quality masks are available for one way masking of those who want to continue that layer of protection. It is time and ADW knows it.

Exactly. I’m not a fear monger. I just want to do my part individually to collectively protect others. This includes vaccination, masks, etc. Just like I want everyone in my car, including the driver and passengers, to wear seatbelts. It doesn’t mean I drive around in fear, but we know seatbelts work and save lives. I am not hysterical about any of this, but I want us to follow public health experts and epidemiologists.

I’m also curious if people think those in Asian countries that have long embraced masking as a courtesy to others think they are fear mongers? Note those nations have generally fared much better than the U.S. in the pandemic.

The vaccination rate for children in the DC Metro are still quite low. Also, the American Academy of Pediatrics still recommends masking in school during times of high community spread. Once it lowers, I am okay with it, but not now, it’s too soon. I’ll take my guidance from the AAP and my pediatrician’s office.

And others want to also take the advice of experts that they trust, including our own doctors. Instead of forcing your risk based assessment on others - please N95 your own child and leave the rest of us to decide for ourselves.

They have (until recently) masked voluntarily. The key word here is voluntarily.

Exactly. And the guidance is evolving. CDC and AAP are always the most conservative and last to update guidance. They are huge bureaucracies the move as slow as molasses. Many other experts are saying it is safe to remove the masks. These experts can pivot more quickly than those huge organizations.

As an example, CDC for many weeks said to not wear masks, while others were recommending them.

Who are the reliable health experts you all trust saying to remove masks in schools? I’m still undecided so trying to weigh things.

+ 1000. And these folks are not right wing but on cnn. Also look at policy and results in Europe and , WHO guidelines on kids US is generally an outlier. UK has been very articulate on the risk reward analysis including development issue particularly for young children. Their government officials speak on this issue directly to explain the the decision not to mask
