Swimming JOs - really is too bad we can’t have 1 spectator per athlete

Covid... really? I don't want your selfish family giving our careful family covid.

You know they are swimming together not distanced and not masked right?

Yes, that's why we pulled our from swim for a few weeks while things surge. But, its 50 kids per group vs. 200-300+ per meet plus families.

But what is the difference between this and college meets? Everyone’s eligible to be vaccinated. At this point they shouldn’t be treating club meets different from college meets.

We aren't talking college meets, we are talking about kids, who may have unvaccinated siblings. Vaccines help with symptoms and hospitalization but they aren't as good with transmission with the new variants (and more on their way). We just had a huge surge in the schools.

Please, college athletes could have siblings under 5 too, the attendance policy has nothing to do with possible siblings of athletes. The efficacy of vaccines applies to anyone that’s vaccinated, whether they are in college or 9 years old. There were also omicron surges on college campuses, as there were in all areas of society. There is no logical reason to allow full attendance at college meets but not at club meets.

What mini meet championship allows spectators? This has all been a cluster. Some clubs allowing one spectator, other clubs operating meets in the same jurisdiction saying no spectators. There is no logic being applied to these rules.

RMSC mini champs at Olney - meet announcement says 1/athlete

NCAP @ Freedom not posted yet

Where do you see there are spectators allowed? I just looked at the meet info

Credentials: Parents not working the meet as a deck official or volunteer timer/runner are not permitted on deck. Only athletes, USA Swimming certified coaches, and deck officials will be permitted on the deck. Coaches and Officials should have proof of active USA Swimming membership with them at all times.

This is a PVS guideline. I have yet to see or hear of a single meet allowing spectators.

I had heard that RMSC meets were allowing 1 spectator per athlete, but I don’t know of any other club allowing spectators.

It is not a PVS guideline, it depends on facility. Spectators were allowed at many RMSC Germantown meets this season.

Also, you are citing deck credentials, not spectators. Spectators are not on deck.

I stand corrected. And confused. Why aren’t there meets in VA with spectators. Nuts. Could watch my high schooler swim but haven’t seen a meet I haven’t worked at since covid Began. Not once at a pvs meet

Seems like RMSC is one of the few (only?) PVS clubs that have had any spectators. We use our own pools vs. renting a facility, I’d guess that’s a major factor.

Its also size. RMSC has 50-60 kids in the regular groups, plus the advanced kids so with four sites, that's easily 250+ kids per age group not including other groups that sign up.

They really should be holding large meets at any level.

The Prince William Complex has allowed spectators. You stand outside, they announce the events. You were allowed to enter for the event prior to your kids - it was standing room only (smart). You stood outside the rest of the time. It was brilliant.

In the alternative require all spectators to show proof of vaccination, limit it to one, and be masked.

RMSC allowed spectators at GISC for the fall meets but you had to watch from the lobby, not the stands. No spectators allowed for the January meet. Not sure about February and later.

They had the stands open in December, didn’t hear of any spread after. It was smart to pause for January.

I guess the next RMSC meet at Germantown will be Spring Finale. (Metros HS meet is there, no spectators.)

In general, the other RMSC sites have not had meet spectators. Germantown has much more space.

Where are you located? We both teach ES grades and haven’t had a big surge.

Our DS swims in college and they just started limiting spectator numbers, which I find odd at this point. Our HS district meet was packed.

Not true at this weekend's RMSC meet (the site manager and front desk person were apparently yelling at the parents watching through the glass to leave the facility bc no spectators allowed), but true at the mini championships.

Under the meet announcement's COVID-19 protocol section:
"There is a limit of one spectator for each participating athlete. Spectator viewing area will be limited."

I had heard that RMSC meets were allowing 1 spectator per athlete, but I don’t know of any other club allowing spectators.
