I liked post labor day - but now we have the worst of both worlds - early state and still late end. |
I loved starting after Labor Day too. If I can’t have that, I would like an early start to break. |

I goggled the calendar and it is kind of awful.
https://www.fcps.edu/sites/default/files/2022-2023-standard-school-year-calendar.pdf So Election week is going to turn into an impromptu holiday week because school is closed on Election Day and Veterans Day. Can we just get rid of these O days? Allow kids who miss school for a religious holiday to make up any missed assignments or tests. I don't get why this is so hard. There isn't one month that doesn't have a day off. Feb and May come close but there is one student holiday for Federal holidays. And I have seen other people post this so I am going to chime in: I would love year round school. Give 2 weeks off after each quarter and make the summer 6 weeks. Plenty of time for people to travel, less learning loss, and better chances for kids to chill and recuperate during the school year. |
| WTAF is an “O” day?? Kids can just F it and stay home? |
Put yourself in other parents shoes a bit... Working parents WORK in the summer, which means many teens spend their summer days home alone. |

Calendar is awful. It was awful last year and they did not improve. Instead, they gave more ridiculous days off to ensure that kids were never in school. Four holidays in October? Why are Halloween and Diwali off? And 3 days off in September? If they're going to add an additional Rosh Hashanah day then remove the extra Labor Day holiday on Friday. I just don't get any of this. Personally, I hate the religious days off. If you're a religious household and want the day off, you can remove your student. The rest of us will stay in school. Let's stick to only federal holidays and call it a day.
Is it 2024 yet? I cannot wait to vote this school board out. It cannot come soon enough. |
| People. O days are changing next year. New content WILL be taught. The fact that many people who still calling these waste days, they will be normal days next year except no major events and assessments. |
where is everyone getting 9 weeks of summer vacation? They get out this year on 6/10, so with an 8/22 start that's 10 weeks. 3 weeks in June, 4 in July, 3 in August. I don't love the veterans day holiday only because the traditional M/T 4 day weekend for election day is much more conducive to a trip or something than having Tuesday and Friday off... I am normally in favor of a long winter break since I have a lot of family across the country but this year might have been a good year to explore a shorter break, based on how the holidays fall. |
They are talking about the following summer. Summer of 2023 is now down to 9 weeks with the 6/16 end date. |

PP here - also - October sucks. They couldn't have figured out a way to align Diwali with the end of the quarter instead of having 3 Mondays off PLUS Yom Kippur? Or sticking with their normal end of the quarter TWD the Monday before election day would have been fine too.
Ugh. |
| Why the f are Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur and Diwali holidays now? |
| No calendar is going to make everyone happy. I want kids in school MORE days to compensate for all the lost years of Covid, I would be happy with a one week winter break and a shorter summer but no one gets their preference. I guess they did a good job if everyone is unhappy. |
They are inviting a lawsuit. There is no secular basis (absenses) for most of these. |
They should have aligned the teacher workdays with the Holy Days. I really feel for the teachers that live in other counties. The School Board fixed the Spring Break issue, but now we are starting before any other county and also ending the latest. This calendar was built to make Omeish happy. She was giddy last night and everyone else (staff included) were only resigned to how terrible this calendar is. |
The problem is that kids are actually in school fewer days. There are so many needless breaks in instruction. |
