Is the 22-23 Calendar designed to be an f-u to parents?

You don't have teens if you think summer is too long for teens. It is way to short.

Put in one summer program in June-July, and sports practices starting in August, teens often only end up with one or two weeks of unscheduled summer break.

I have teens and I think it is too long. I prefer more time off during the school year. I would love it if summer was 6-8 weeks.

It will always be the first week of April. It has nothing to do with Easter.

Nope. By mid May AP exams are over. Not a lot happens in many classes after that. And good luck getting seniors to do anything. Plus, the late end date effects summer jobs, internships and programs. No reason not to end school by Memorial Day at the HS level.

Not everyone in HS takes AP classes and still have final exams.

But they can still be done by Memorial Day. APs are the only thing on the HS calendar that are fixed and really impact start and stop dates. It’s SZols at the lower levels.

From past posts on these boards I had the impression that most families thought the summer was too long (learning slide, pools are dead in August anyhow, kids get board…).

No, OP, that’s not the point of the calendar. I am so tired of these over the top, angry screeds against FCPS. My FCPS kids have gotten out as late as the third week of June so I don’t know what the hubbub is about (other than the usual political bs). No one is going to love every part of the calendar. I don’t want a two week winter break. I would prefer year-round school. But, it’s fine.

The HS kids take AP exams the first week of May. After that they check out. So it's not a real 14 weeks for them.

For the ES and MS kids grades don't matter and they check out around May anyway.

This really sucks for the MS kids taking HS classes and non AP HS kids. I feel badly for them.

i don't they've confirmed. this year could be a coincidence. the following year will confirm - when easter is 3/31.
