Berkeley undergrads are more sought out too if salary data is anything to go for. Consistently higher in nearly all fields. Sure UCLA might be a better short term experience, but the ROI for Berkeley seems higher.

I agree that UVA is not in same league as Cal, UCLA, or Michigan. It is a tier up from UMD however.

Cal is ranked higher (I believe for historical reasons) but UCLA is harder to get into.

Cal is more "serious". UCLA is in a great location. Berkley as a location is meh, but IMO, in CA, people see Cal > UCLA, but only slightly. Berkley and LA have totally different vibes.

top PP here. My kids went to school with that woman; I didn't go to her memorial last weekend only because my DH was sick. That murder had nothing to do with UCLA. She's a local; even if she wasn't getting her advanced degree at UCLA, she might have been working at that store.

My OOS kid received Regents scholarship and it covered about 95% of the expenses including transportation during thanksgiving and breaks. Of course it is very competitive and only about 20 are selected each year for OOS students.

Yes, Regent's scholarship is amazing. I am glad they offer them to out of state students.

That doesn’t change the fact that LA is inundated with the homeless. Of course the SF area isn’t any better, probably worse.
