So you are happy to align with an authoritarian government that wants to force birth than a handful of left wing nutjobs? |
+1 I won't be crossing the bridges other than to get to airports. |
Mid terms are coming and Dems need to vote in large numbers or we will continue to regress. |
Yes, but they were all better than Youngkin. |
Extremists on the left want voting for all who can do so legally, want universal healthcare and want to make it so mentally ill people cannot posess guns legally. Extremists on the right want an authoritarian ethno-Christian white nationalist country. The two are not the same. |
You will be bleating when you have to drive your daughter to DC or MD to get a legal abortion. |
|
What did voters think would happen?
No women's health care or abortions and lots and lots and lots of guns. |
DP. Your feelings sure seem relevant if you are voting out of spite. |
I will give you that. But Youngkin is not Desantis. He could be Hogan. And I will take a Hogan any day over Bernie/AOC an their ilk. All this angst about Youngkin threatening abortion rights is much ado about nothing. Youngkin/Miyares are making the right noises to please their base on the right. And yes Canada is still awaiting all those who had said they would move when Trump got elected. All those emigrating from Virginia can cut a deal with them Canadians. Au Revoir! |
Politico has a great short podcast on how the Youngkin campaign actively chose to not use the national playbook and how McAullife did and why it made such a difference. It’s super interesting IMO. They talk to both parties. Democrats really should listen to it even more. |
LOL youngkin is not Desantis. Youngkin is Ted cruz. He will do anything Fox News tells him to do. He surrounds himself with radical white nationalist and religious zealots. I would take AOC over Hogan any day. At least she is not a republicans set on overthrowing the government. Now he is f%#king around with people kids and forcing everyone to live under religious edicts. This might work in West Virginia or Texas but not in a blue state. He is done. |

I'm so sad, and I don't even care if the jerks here rip into me. I grew up in Virginia. I left for college and graduate school and then returned. I thought we'd made such progress. I remember growing up here when racism was totally accepted. My high school played Dixie at pep rallies. Gay people were regularly mocked. When my child was little, my next door neighbors handed out papers encouraging us to vote against gay marriage with their Halloween candy. I'm not even a really progressive Democrat. If the Republican party would stop being the party of evangelical Christians, I might have considered voting Republican--well, before Trump and that insanity.
One week in and already all of this. I wasn't crazy about McAuliffe. I felt like people identify him with the Clintons, and we all know how that goes. But I admit I was complacent. I thought Virginia was pretty solidly blue--centrist blue--but blue. I voted for him, but I didn't work to try to get the vote out like I had since Trump was elected. When Youngkin won, I was obviously disappointed, but I really hoped he would be moderate. Maryland is blue and Democrats seem to like Larry Hogan. I think? But one week in and THIS. All of this already. Just why? I mean, I know why. Because politics is just a game to these people. It's just about power. But Virginia is a moderate state. Just be moderate. It's so disappointing. And after so many years of Trump and knowing the Democrats are probably going to lose next year and seeing what the Supreme Court is like now, it just makes me want to give up. I don't have any fight left. And you know what? My family has money. I could get to a state with legal abortions. Lower taxes help me. I vote against my economic interests because the Republican party literally seems evil. Democrats may be incompetent, but they aren't evil. |
You must be such a dedicated soldier to your cause if you treat your signature issue with such callousness. |
Please. What about the thousands of daughters, mother's, sisters, aunts, grannies, etc. that are now as good as criminals. States need to get reprodutive rights laws on the books or everyone will soon be surrounded by " murderers". |
You are NOT pro choice or in favor of gun control. You sacrificed both of these so you could, what, be sure your kid doesn’t allegedly play privileged bingo. Own your fing choice. |
