The pope calls child-free people/parents of only children 'selfish'

Is God listening? Am I undeserving? These are rhetorical questions, but I write them here to make the point: these words about selfishness are destructive and cruel. If he didn’t mean for his words to apply to people in my situation, maybe he could think a little more carefully about his words. I feel even worse after reading this even though I know intellectually that it’s ridiculous.

The Catholic church teaches in a million different ways that the primary and most holy calling for women is to be a mother. While at the same time, they offer virtually no spiritual or concrete support for infertile couples and forbid most of the methods that would actually allow a woman to become a mother.
It's diabolical and one of the primary reasons I am not Episcopalian.

Episcopalians allow women to be ordained and to rise through the ranks, many have even become bishops if they choose that calling. They also wholly support fertility treatments. Im not sure that treating women differently than men is a reason not to be an Episcopalian

That should be "now Episcopalian" not "not Episcopalian" Stupid typos.

My half sister had to take care of her mentally ill alcoholic mother until she died earlier this year. She told me the experience made her have zero desire to have kids because she was forced to be a caregiver for most of her life. She is the least selfish person I've ever met.

He’s also not a true follower of Jesus. He lives the life of a king in fancy clothing and residing in a palace. A true follower would dedicate his life to serving others and living amongst the people.

Now he’s criticizing women for not having more kids when he didn’t have any himself. He’s terrible.

That you know of

Not that it’s a zero-sum game, but some of that energy could be spent on helping the poor, tutoring kids, etc. I also think it’s nuts that we slaughter millions of cows, chickens, and pigs annually to feed pets.

This. The pets are children too thing is nuts.

It’s not up to you to decide people should not be Catholic. (I am not Catholic, btw.) Do you have the same advice for people who follow Islam? Or Jewish people? Those “old-timey” religions, all outdated?

If you don’t want to be a Catholic, you don’t have to be. Nobody has to be any religion. If you aren’t Catholic, you have no concerns about what the Pope is talking about.

Obviously written by a non-Catholic. For Catholics, it's sinful not to follow the rules of the Catholic Church. True, lots of people switch, but according to Catholicism, they are hell bound

I can. Pointing out intolerance and bigotry is something we should all do. There is absolutely nothing wrong with being Catholic. No one needs to “move on” or be told their faith tradition isn’t good enough.

If you don’t want to be a Catholic, don’t. Others that are Catholic are completely fine to worship as they want.

Where are the posts telling Muslims or Jewish people to get rid of their faith for a more modern religious belief system? No where. Catholics are being unfairly targeted by bigots here.

If you don’t want to be Catholic don’t be. The Pope isn’t on charge of you so don’t worry about him.

Most child-free people I know are selfish. But why is that a bad thing? If you're not a Christian, why not be selfish? It's not like you have anyone to answer to.

That’s why the outrage here is ridiculous. Nobody has to be Catholic. You can leave the Catholic Church if you decide it’s not for you. Be selfish; be unselfish. Be a circus performer. Be a vascular surgeon or be a dogwalker. Be an atheist or a Catholic or whatever you want to be. In American it’s completely up to you to choose.

People who aren’t Catholic worrying about the pope; it’s none of their business. It has zero to do with them. I think they just like talking about themselves and their opinions and it basically is an exercise in arrogance. If you aren’t Catholic, who cares what you think about the pope?

Has it escaped your laser focus that once a Catholic says “I am no longer a Catholic” they are no longer worried about what the Catholic Church says? Why are you worried about it?

If a person rejects the teachings of the Catholic Church and leaves the church, you are worried they are “going to hell?”

According to other religions catholics are hell bound. Unless you happen to have insight about who is correct, most people don't care what other think

Selective outrage, extremely transparent.
