Is 'cutting' your orange juice with filtered water trashy?

Do they charge you the full amount or do you get two drinks for one? Because that’s what that could sound like, like you’re being a miser.

DP. Really? That literally never would have occurred to me that I would be asking for two drinks for the price of one. If I say “lemonades for both my kids, half lemonade half water” am I going to look like I’m being miserly? This is good to know.

I used to be a server and parents ask for this all the time. We assume you are trying to make the drink less sugary, that’s all. If the family is worried about keeping the cost down they might split entrees, not order apps etc. That’s also fine but asking for your drink to be diluted does not make you sound poor if you are concerned about that.

Depends on the restaurant and who’s ordering.

I said could, not always. Yes, splitting drinks and splitting meals and extra plates are low class cheapskate tactics.

We order an extra glass of ice water with our juicefor just this reason. I think OP is one if our class- and wealth-obsessed posters who are relatively new to our country.

Sure but if you are ordering full meals with the whole family I wouldn’t make this assumption based on one drink request. And I worked part time at an Applebee’s in HS before I landed a job at an upscale place. I really don’t get this paranoia about sounding poor though. Your server truly doesn’t care as long as you are polite and tip well. And none of these dcum people rolling into farm to table restaurants with their fancy strollers and ordering $25 entrees are going to “look poor” because they want their kids’ juice diluted. This whole thread is ridiculous.

I don't think OP knows.

I cut it with vodka and seltzer

Well, it's silly to drink fruit juice in the first place. No health benefits whatsoever. Just a big infusion of sugar, which no one needs.

If you want your vitamins, eat fruit. It will also contain a large amount of beneficial fiber.

Tang! Now that's trashy! Well, except....the astronauts drink it!

I have about 4 oz of OJ every morning with my breakfast, but I mix Simply Orange no pulp with Trop 50 no pulp, half and half, so it's less sweet but not completely fake sweetener sweet. It's deliciious!

The whole trend toward saying OJ is a bad drink is just stupid. It's just oranges. Don't cancel oranges!

No as in literally zero health benefits? Cite a source. Of course an actual orange is better but there's no way an 8oz cup of fresh pure orange juice has zero vitamins and nutrients.

Water it down?!

We just buy juice for appearances and keep it in the fridge until it goes bad and throw it away, to be replaced before the next guest arrives.

My children don't even drink juice outside of maybe at the occasional birthday party.

This.

+1 heh? I cut my juice with water all the time.

If that’s what you like, drink it. But if you’re having brunch, and offering OJ, sparkling wine would be the only acceptable dilution.
