Trashy is not the word. As a request, it would be a bit “extra” as the kids say. But in fact it’s the better educated who might do this, because they realize that juice is mostly just sugar. The people who you deem as “trash” wouldn’t care about such a thing. |
Lol. Imagine pretending you've never heard of an adult drinking orange juice just to feel better about yourself. |
| I don’t know if trashy is the word that comes to mind, but OJ in general, cut or not, is too much sugar for every day drink. Eat an orange and drink a glass of water. |
I like orange juice with a savory breakfast or a breakfast with sausage or bacon. I think the acidic orange juice cuts down on any greasy feeling? I do not want orange juice if I'm eating yogurt bowl, crepes or a pastry -- I want a coffee with things like that. |
Oranges and nectarines go bad too quickly in a home. We end up pitching half of them before we can eat them all. Orange juice lasts 7 to 10 days after opening. |
+2. How would adding water to your juice be trashy? I rarely drink juice but when I do I generally mix half juice half water so it’s less sweet. I am completely confused as to how this would be seen as trashy, though I can understand that it’s might not be another persons taste. |
That's my point. Cutting/diluting orange juice has trashy roots -- poor families would add water to the jug to "stretch" what was left in the container, right? |
Thank you. I drink what I want how I want it. Doesn't everyone? |
Historically, adding water to the orange juice container was a low class / poor / trashy thing. Poor would serve you watered-down orange juice, people with a little money would offer you the good non-water-down stuff. |
You're saying poor = trashy. You are not a decent human. |
| I often let my kids have lemonade when we are out to eat and regularly ask that they do half water/half lemonade. I’m polite about asking and it never seems to be a problem…why would that be trashy? |
+1 |
Agreed. Poor is not necessarily trashy. And I would think a lot of people drinking diluted juice would not be trashy, just somewhat health conscious and trying to limit their sugar intake. |
Source? |
And I’ll add, of course poor people who are stretching juice with water are not at all trashy for doing so. I really can’t think how this would be trashy under any circumstance. |
