You did miss something. Their messaging from the start was that going red would trigger a conversation with DHHS on how to proceed. They never said it was automatic. They are not violating their policy.

(I’m super irritated with MCPS, so I hate to defend them. But technically they didn’t violate anything.)

Except they automatically shut the first 11 down and there was ZERO in-school transmission. No conversation happened there. Are they opening them back up now?

The W schools have more COVID than Seneca Valley. This is bs on who closes and who is open. Students are now educated based on zip codes and who has the power to fight back. We all live in the same county.

And meanwhile, bars, restaurants, and malls are fully open for business.

It's the opposite though. The schools with "fragile populations" get meal delivery, the booster and vaccination clinics on site, etc. If you are unfortunate enough to live in a wealthier area you are treated like dirt

Has anyone done an analysis on which schools had their bussed shut down? I'm guessing it was predominantly the wealthier areas.

HAHAHA. Your lack of self awareness is priceless.

No one knows what's going on or what to expect and it's made worse by communications that appear very clear but in fact were misleading.

Total disaster.

They are literally causing so much anxiety and mental anguish at this point.

Agree. It almost feels intentional. They seem to like drama.

I wonder how much of this communication disaster is the work of the $130/ hr communication expert they hired.

My god. MCPS is so bad at this. I’ve been ok with MCPS until this point but the lack of planning coupled with their horrendous communication is sending me over the edge.

OMG did they? I was just thinking they need a professional because the leadership can't handle simple communications.

I got bombarded with robocalls, texts, and emails last year during covid. They can't do the same with simple, clarifying messages about what's going on?

I really, really do not understand what's going on with them. It's like they are all passed out drunk in a back room somewhere, saying f*!* this.

You should feel free to do the analysis yourself.

Here is the page that will let you compare route numbers to clusters: https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/transportation/contact/supervisors.aspx

....and here is the list of impacted buses from driver sickness: Route # 1111 1116 1122 1125 1126 1127 1204 1208 1214 1216 1220 1226 1302 1304 1305 1312 1319 1414 2102 2109 2119 2310 2310 2318 2402 2406 2410 2411 2413 2418 2602 2604 2606 2611 2618 2628 3101 3107 3116 3206 3210 3216 3302 3315 3319 3335 3420 3506 3511 3801 3805 3806 3808 3820 3821 3824 3826 3829 3832 3833 3836 3859 3863 3864 3870 4103 4119 4123 4133 4135 4306 4307 4313 4315 4847 6109 6112 6221 6308 6310 6315 6318 6319 6331 6811 6812 6836 6880 6896 6913 6975 6981 6991 6992

Meanwhile many of us are fine with their recent communication, have assessed the risk for our kids/family, made a decision about whether to send them to school and moved on.

NP. Oh please. Their communication sucks. Complete radio silence after putting up that “red” spreadsheet the other day? And then not updating it yesterday?

I don't even know what that means. My high schooler doesn't have teachers in two classes. At all. There is no adult supervision. This isn't about assessing risk. This is about the farce that they can keep schools operational and safe. And I don't mean from a health perspective. COVID doesn't bother me at the high school level with masks and vaccines. I mean actual learning, actual physical safety when assaults are up at most schools. Kids are just skipping and smoking weed and slap boxing in the bathrooms all day. "if" they decide to even go.

The bus with the highest concentration of farms students got shut down.

In their Tuesday press conference, MCPS said they would update the red/yellow/green status for each school on a daily basis (see around the 11 minute mark): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j2OGy_pTZ0I&t=686s

In the community update email sent on January 2, they said "To keep families updated, throughout January, all members of the MCPS community will receive community update emails on Thursday afternoons, with the most up-to-date information regarding COVID-19 and the steps we are taking to keep students, staff, families and community members safe."

It's really frustrating that they did neither of these things yesterday.

I agree.

And I warned you all before Christmas that this is what we would face if the system didn't pivot to virtual for January. People scoffed, since Omicron is supposed to be milder than Delta, and as usual did not grasp the math that more transmission means a deluge of positive cases and therefore, people out at all levels. Logistics and operations are ALWAYS the Achilles' heel of such organizations. High numbers of Omicron cases was bound to be a mess, since any ordinary stress on the system already leads to a mess at the best of times.

I agree it's super frustrating, but I'm not sure what they are supposed to do. Making a decision that allowed parents to plan would be moving to virtual for all. Making case by case decisions means uncertainty. You can't have time to plan and decisions made with up to the minute current data...they do need time to gather the data. Every plan they attempt to put in place draws criticism.

Don’t the high schools have more students…??

Kids are self-reporting positive cases.
