No one knows what's going on or what to expect and it's made worse by communications that appear very clear but in fact were misleading.

Total disaster.

They are literally causing so much anxiety and mental anguish at this point.

MCPS never really cared about the social and emotional well-being of students anyway. Be-Well 360 is four years old so it’s being replaced with You Get What You Get And You Don’t Get Upset.

You did miss something. Their messaging from the start was that going red would trigger a conversation with DHHS on how to proceed. They never said it was automatic. They are not violating their policy.

(I’m super irritated with MCPS, so I hate to defend them. But technically they didn’t violate anything.)

Except they automatically shut the first 11 down and there was ZERO in-school transmission. No conversation happened there. Are they opening them back up now?

The W schools have more COVID than Seneca Valley. This is bs on who closes and who is open. Students are now educated based on zip codes and who has the power to fight back. We all live in the same county.

And meanwhile, bars, restaurants, and malls are fully open for business.

It's the opposite though. The schools with "fragile populations" get meal delivery, the booster and vaccination clinics on site, etc. If you are unfortunate enough to live in a wealthier area you are treated like dirt

Has anyone done an analysis on which schools had their bussed shut down? I'm guessing it was predominantly the wealthier areas.

This is only part of an equation and would need to include the number of tests taken to total student/staff ratio.
It may be the W schools had a higher percentage reporting.

What happened to the busses from the schools that shut down. Are they being used for schools that have bus shortages?

How many kids are going to spread COVID riding in other people’s cars including friends and Uber? Some schools are just corralling kids into the auditorium as if lets get the entire school into one room and see how fast COVID spreads. My child said his first period teacher was coughing so badly he didn’t go in at lunch for help because his teacher probably has COVID but he came to school sick.

They are gaslighting the entire county. That was everyone’s impression, including two smart reporters that follow this for a living.

Plus, they had the color coded dashboard Tues and Wed. So it can’t be a Wed-only update.

DP. I am so glad I am not you. How ignorant and miserable.

MCPS employees are experts at spin and trickery. Have you ever been to a school meeting? Hell, for IEP meetings I hired an educational advocate just to explain what the school staff was saying.

This is why very few parents trust MCPS anymore.

Is this a joke? You are free to move to a less expensive area.

^^ it’s not a joke. To this pp, education, lunch, vaccines, and covid tests are zero sum games obviously favoring the poor.

DMV UMC weaklings are hilarious.

True but it sounded like 5 % would essentially trigger virtual. Then the 11 schools that reached 5 % went virtual without much deliberation (it seemed). Then when most schools went over 5 % and one was over 10 %, they decided it was a “possible” shut down (possible=if it makes the decision makers look good).

There is no plan. They don’t have effective masks, air filtration, tests or even buses. But let’s stay open anyway.

What a disaster!!

When you can't refute the facts, go to ad hominem attacks.

Pretty sure lots of kids spread covid in school before break. The % is an indicator of that school’s positive rate (though we know it’s actually higher).
We’d be crazy to think lots of kids didn’t show up to school with covid and that many have masks that used to be ok but won’t stop them from spreading omicron.

We can not look at how delta spread. Omicron is very different as we see from the rapid spread.
