If your school is red, are you sending your child tomorrow?

Some of us tried to tell you before Christmas that schools had to pivot to virtual for January. But apparently things are easier to understand when they're color-coded. That was a genius idea of MCPS, their one and only...

What is wrong in your life that you need to come say "I told you do" on an anonymous message board about something that no one could have done differently anyway. Wow.

Unless your kid isn't eating lunch, they will get it at school. It's practically guaranteed.

What are you afraid of exactly?

I’m happy if you keep your kid home because it means less kids in the classroom for my kid who will be in school.

But let’s be clear - there have been ZERO deaths of kids age 0-18 in MoCo due to Covid since the beginning of this pandemic. That is actually a fantastic statistic and should be immensely reassuring to all MCPS parents.

Oh honey, there was just a death in the neighboring county. Jeff will not let us talk about it here but don't think for a second it MCPS is immune. There is no extra protection for MCPS. And, many kids and parents are really sick right now. Its pathetic you simply don't care about anyone let alone your child.

My four kids are staying home tomorrow and Friday. Hopefully the schools pivot to virtual next week.

So, what is your point? Are you keeping your kid under lock and key? No playdates, no get togethers with friends, no socializing of any kind with other people? They can get it school or they can get it outside of school. It's unavoidable at this point unless you're literally hiding in your basement (which maybe you are at this point).

A lot of us take this seriously enough that school was the only thing we were doing. Working and sending out kids to school. Anything else seemed irresponsible to our community.

Sorry, but you're really dumb. I don't know if you're the one parroting this on every MCPS thread, or if there are a small number of really stupid dummies.

Schools are accelerators of Omicron spread, especially during lunch. The kids are sitting close together, hundreds in one crowded cafeteria, without masks, opening their mouths to eat and yell. Every day. What do you think's going to happen? It's way, way worse than any mass super-spreader event you could participate in outside of school, unless you took your household to an indoor concert venue and you all took off your masks. So people with Omicron are going to school, and spreading it rapidly to others students and staff.

And don't say it didn't happen before. It happened with Delta in September, but to a lesser extent because OMICRON IS 10 TIMES MORE TRANSMISSIBLE THAN DELTA.

Not the PP, but there is not a single scientific shred of evidence that schools are super spreaders. Lunch time is not a super spreader event. The reason why cases have skyrocketed recently is because people were NOT in school, socializing, attending parties, going to the mall, going to restaurants, etc. and THAT'S how the virus is spread around. Not by attending school.

This is just completely and utterly untrue. There is evidence that schools serve as locations of Covid transmission, especially during unmasked lunch time. Here is one study in Chicago which shows 40% of cases originating at schools.

Why do you think MCPS is 100% safe with covid? It is no different than anywhere else. A child just died in a neighboring county. And, for some people it is more than death. Watching your child suffer for days is not pleasant, especially when you are suffering too. Your posts are less reassuring as you are someone who wouldn't think twice abotu sending sick kids to school.

I’m sending my kids. I don’t think keeping them home from school will prevent our family from getting omicron. It is everywhere in the community. Unless we literally go nowhere for months, at some point we’ll get it. We got vaxxed and boosted so we didn’t have to worry about the severe disease from covid. My kids need in person school; it is essential for learning and their mental health.

I’m more of a keep your kids in the basement type of person with regards to COVID. However, I’m so a super pro do well in school mom. My kid is in a HS magnet and they can’t afford to be out of school as long as it is open- so they are going.

+1 It’s horrible that Montgomery County has kept bars and restaurants open during a winter surge but now want to close essential services like schools. There are many students with disabilities that regressed during the last closure and did not recover yet. We are still trying to get MCPS to provide the compensatory services our children were promised then MCPS did not uphold that promise. MCPS has lost all credibility at this point lawsuits will be flying if they think they can deny students with disabilities their accommodations and services. If my child school closes, they can either pay for private services till they reopen or bus my child to an open school.

Your kids mental health will be just fine for two weeks. They are home two months in the summer.

They don’t have to- it’s a deliberate choice. This after saying they would only go virtual when directed to by the state. They suck.

DP. My child is vaccinated. Are you anti-vax? That one child death is sad, but is not reflective of the majority of kids who get Covid, even less so when they are vaccinated. We are going to be living with Covid a long long time.

I just looked at the dashboard- holy F. Our ES is red but we haven’t heard anything. Do you guys think MCPS actually knew what they were doing when deciding on 5% as a metric? DHHS must have known at least. It all feels pretty disingenuous.
