If your school is red, are you sending your child tomorrow?

I don’t know what to think about any of this. Yuck.

No we are not. The #s are going up rapidly, teachers are out, lunch is inside, classes where teachers are absent are being sent to large rooms, and my child (knock wood) didn't have trouble with virtual. He is not a science experiment.

It's really sad though.

I get that parents with kids who suffered from virtual are freaking out. I can also get that parents with kids who recently had COVID are nonplussed about the risks for the next few months.

But I am not either of those type of parent. So my kid stays home. And I will respectfully tell the attendance secretary why.

He has an assignment he has to turn in first period tomorrow. I am sending him, but picking him up at lunch. It's my only free time and god knows what the buses will be like tomorrow. His morning bus showed, but his afternoon bus did not. If that happens again, I can't leave work around 3 to get him. I took a couple neighbor kids home with me, but I have no idea what happened to the other kids left at school.

My school is, implausibly and by some fluke, one of the 8 green schools.

I wasn't going to send my kid on Monday (had it not been a snow day), I didn't send my kid today and I won't be sending them this week, and then their school will be virtual like every other school on Monday (okay, I only give this 95% odds).

I get that people are confused and concerned. But in the end, there's not much to think through here and I have been pretty clear on that for a while.

Yes. They’re vaccinated and wearing masks and they need and want to be in school.

I honestly don’t know at this point. DS said they skipped math class and did busy work instead (4th grade). Many classmates were missing. Also there was no bus today and I’m not sure if it will come tomorrow. But if she’s at home, she will watch tv or play Roblox all day while DH and I work.

Our school (JWMS) is solid red with over 6% positivity. DS reported all teachers present and business as usual today. DH is driving him tomorrow, so he is going to school. Now if I only can get him boosted finally (CDC approved, but pharmacies are still not making appointments), I would be happier.

Another JW parent here...I didn't realize they were red. Is this a new update? The chart I saw on Jan 3rd had them at yellow.

Yes, there's a new update. Look at the thread about 7 pm data and follow the posted links.

By the end of the week all the schools will be red. They just did this to give you false hope that they weren’t actually already planning on closing.

Daily update at 7pm. Most schools are now in the red. One school is even at 10%.

Yes. He is vaxxed and masked. He had 1 teacher out today, and he said the sub was a better teacher than the actual one. He spent time learning, working on debate prep for next week, seeing his friends, engaging with the world as a teenager should. And I will keep him doing those things until they lock the school doors, and then I will bang on those doors until they open them again.

Some of us tried to tell you before Christmas that schools had to pivot to virtual for January. But apparently things are easier to understand when they're color-coded. That was a genius idea of MCPS, their one and only...
