I sincerely hope you aren’t a teacher. Teachers have a long way to go to rehabilitate their bruised image and comments like this aren’t helping. |
| I’m a teacher. I have three kids under seven who also have a snow day, so somebody has to watch them. That someone will have to be me. |
np. agree that was uncalled for and realize that long rehabilitation goes both ways |
You can stay at home with your kids and work too. A lot of parents have been doing this for the last year and a half when MC PS was closed. |
Good for you stay at home and work. |
When was MCPS closed? I missed that. |
| Another teacher here who does not look at email during non-working hours. MY time! |
During Covid of course. The schools were closed. The children were being taught through a screen live or video. Learning half the curriculum. |
| OP I taught before having children so for me, snow closures were truly a bonus. On the average snow day, I put in about 10 hours of grading and planning. But no, there weren't team meetings or other type of official work, if that's what you're asking about. |
The fact of the matter is the profession is in crisis. They are running ads for teachers on national TV. There is a crisis of epic proportion with regard to the reputation of teachers. I’m not sure that they understand when they respond like this it only reinforces that negative perception. Perhaps they don’t care. |
Not nearly as far to go as entitled parents that are chasing good teachers away from the profession. I try to treat our kids' teachers extra nice because I know so many of the parents of my children's classmates who are total entitled jerks. Believe me, many of us know exactly who the most obnoxious parents are. More than half the time they are the parents of the worst behaved children, too. I feel bad for the teachers that have to deal with some of those children and their parents. |
Just for once take accountability just once. If parents who want their children to be taught in person are chasing off the teachers then those teachers aren’t good teachers. Just stop. If you don’t want to deal with bad children that have your school board or your school system do something about it. |
Then. |
Who is they? You assume every supportive post for the profession must be a teacher. What does that say about you? |
This. |
