Do teachers work on snow days?

Anonymous
Is it just a free no work day?

Why do you care?
Anonymous
I do but it is not required. It is my choice to work so I can try to catch up.

This. Get a life.

No, they work on the make up days.

Oh what now Karen. Are we going to blame teachers for snow day's? Are we going to lobby for them to submit work reports on a snow day?

Teachers actually control the weather. When they get tired, they get together and take a vote. This time the yays won. Most were not ready to return to school after winter break. So they created a snowstorm.

Don’t share this with anyone.

Yes, it’s true. They use special lasers to control the weather. I’m surprised you were not aware of this

Teacher here at a private school and only if I want to. I don’t go into the classroom but if I want to do stuff at home I do. If I want to take a nap and watch Real Housewives I do that.

Teachers deserve a damn snow day. F off!

I don't have a problem with teachers not working when classes are cancelled. BUT, this attitude bugs me. And it reveals that it actually IS seen as a free paid day off. As though it is some sort of bonus for them. It isn't. Snow days are an unfortunate necessity.

What is the real issue? You are upset you have your kids home and have to take care of them? What do you want? The teacher to come over and babysit? Their office, the school building is closed!

Did you read my first sentence?

I'm fine with them not working. What mildly annoys me is reveling in it, or treating it like they "deserve" a day off and the snow day provides it.

I am a teacher and the school buildings are not closed. All 12 month employees work on site. I love to go in when the building is quiet. I get a week's worth of work done in a day.

Lots and lots of teachers do this.

In MCPS the snow days are built into the schedule ON TOP OF the required days for teaching. They are expected to taken off. If the the snow days are not used basically teachers are working an extra two days for free.
