MIT will be out on Saturday. She better not have applied early to both Yale and MIT. That’s wrong.

No. You can't do that. She must have applied regular decision to MIT.

Not the PP but why is it wrong? It’s EA not ED? I thought lots of kids applied to tons of schools EA?

Such a bummer. Wondering were there that many applying from this area? Or, should we worry about a rec?

Seems they cut over 50% this year, took fewer and deferred much fewer. Knocked the wind out of kid's sails a bit. Did not expect an admit, but thought they'd at least get deferred.

It is so tough.This is so exhausting. When my older kid applied, I was shocked to see athletes writing their own tickets. I thought I am mentally stronger this time with my second kid but once again, it stings. Academics, high scores, incredible EC, but at the end, not special enough, that is how my second kid feels, watching his friends getting offers from ivy because they are athletes. It stings bad.

Oh please.

Yes but a few have single choice early action meaning it is non-binding like early action but you can only apply to one. Yale and MIT are both single choice early action. You can apply to both, but one must be regular decision.

You can't do that because Yale only offers single choice early action -- so students can't apply to another private school early action.

Is it really true? It doesn’t seem so for TJHSST kids.

What do you mean? They admit a ton from TJ every year.

It they take like 2-3 students from a small private school every year and 4-7 from TJ, I don’t think the percentage works out. Also, these TJ kids work so hard, I dare to say average TJ kids work harder than many top students at base schools.

That number is way off. Last year, they offered around 15 (only half decided to attend). And no one is saying Yale is easy to get in even for TJ students.

It is unlikely a student could make this mistake. The guidance department would explain it when the requests were made to forward materials to the schools.

Sorry for the disappointment. This whole process is so hard. You have a great kid. Go buy your child a lottery ticket as an object lesson.

SCEA =/= EA

The three boys we know accepted were all legacy admits.

I think we are approaching a point where these lottery schools are a waste of time for a lot of top students. There are plenty of schools ranked 25-75 where they can get in, maybe get some merit money, and be set. Yale is great, but knowing if you can get in is not worth the likely disappointment and missed ED opportunity at another school.
