He can do better with safety choices. Look at Lehigh, but be sure to visit and show a lot of interest.

Maybe. But these are true safeties for him and there will be plenty of merit coming from several of them.

PP back. Did not realize you are looking for merit aid. In that case, Lehigh would be off the table.

Safeties for my DS who had a similar profile from Big 3 last year:
Indiana (rolling) - once in here, took off other more "safety" like schools
Babson
Case Western

Got into all, so they were sold safeties/matches.

Be sure to "show interest" via interview, virtual sessions, virtual tours.

Dayton
Elon
Marist
UNCW or UNCC

add Lehigh and URoch as a match, if mid size is what he wants

Marist’s campus is pretty isolated - I would not recommend it for someone looking for city schools or lively college towns

OP here- not looking for merit aid and he will be full pay.

Thank you for all the suggestions thus far!

I thought people paid big bucks for private schools in part to get their college counseling. Why is OP asking DCUM?

But if he ends up going to a true safety, they will likely offer merit. Obviously, he applies as a full-pay student but you don’t turn down merit!

Why do you believe everything you read on here? Ha!

CWRU
Tulane
Villanova
Wisconsin if he is willing to go larger.
Pepperdine?

Just listing relatively urban schools is not helping on the "safety" part of the equation. Tulane, Case and W&M are not safeties. If one applies ED or ED2, with those stats, there is a good shot.

I think those are reasonable safeties for that profile from a Big 3. Also, this profile has a very good shot at Chicago with an ED application.

Especially full pay.

Likely safety Brandeis (although maybe it’s too small?)
True safety Belmont (it’s a pretty campus near Vandy)

Brandeis is small and it's not really in a college town. I think Tufts, BU, and Northeastern would be better if he's interested in the urban or college city/town lifestyle.

The train is right at the foot of Brandeis campus and really easy to get to Cambridge and Boston.

No way is Tufts a safety. Northeastern isn’t anymore either. BU isn’t even a clear safety, though it is more likely than the other two.

GDS is the peer of StA and Sidwell as far as acceptance rates.

I can't speak to acceptance rates, but the GPAs of GDS seniors tend to be higher than the GPAs of Sidwell seniors. Not that Sidwell calculates GPAs

Huh?

Where did you get that made up fact? There's no way you could know if that's true or false.

Stop making shit up.

I’m what world are Tufts, BU and NE safeties for this applicant?

The same one in which Haverford is (an earlier poster suggested that one...)...there really are a bunch of folks that have a very skewed view of what safeties are. These schools are not safeties for anyone, regardless of scores/grades. I know two kids from W schools with great grades and over 1500 SAT to get rejected from Haverford last year...I'm guessing the same is true for BU, Tufts, and NE....
