Dp. They are great names but wanted to give you a head's up. In the Madeline books she has a dog named Genevieve. My dd is Madeleine and we got the Madeline books as a gift.

Why would that be a heads up?

My kids would love it if they were characters in the same book, especially one as charming as Madeline.

That’s great for Madeline, but how would Genevieve feel having the “dog name?”

DP. Another heads up is that, fair or not, if the PP isn’t a francophone, people will call her pretentious.

At the age when kids like those books, being named for a dog would be an honor. Surely you aren’t raising your 4 year old to understand being a female dog as an insult?

Yes you are crazy. Lady is a terrible name.

Clementine and Penelope

Lillian and Eleanor

Maeve and Hazel

Marigold (Mari) and Daphne

Can you tell I have a boy? Never got to use my girl names!!! Take them!

Love clementine and Penelope and Maeve and hazel. Good list!

Maeve and Hazel sound too similar. Imagine yelling them across the field at a crowded swim meet. Both girls will think you are calling them. Ask me how I know this. We erred in giving our girls really similar names.

I would never think of a dog nor would I think the family is pretentious. They are both beautiful, classic names and I especially love Genevieve.

Hey it’s the previous poster here, thanks so much for the heads up about the book! I did know already but don’t think it’s a big deal. I’m responding to the person who’s says I’m pretentious, why is that? We chose these names because they have cutesy, girly nickname potential for little kids but then professional sounding names as adults. I know plenty of people use these names these days, are they all pretentious too or is it the combo? I’m genuinely curious bc my husband and I come from lower middle class families and don’t really want to give our kids names that the family will make fun of behind our backs or something. For what it’s worth, we do both speak French though we aren’t from France or anything like that.

I didn’t say you’re pretentious, I said that people will call you pretentious.
