Advice - Moving to Bethesda

agree with this! no good can come of it. do your research on the coaches who develop strong technical skills. those are the coaches who are not screaming their heads off at games. they are the coaches who are chilling at the games and letting their players execute what they learned at training all week.

Agree with avoiding BSC. Grown too big and complacent with poor oversight of abusive (and ineffective) coaches.

They do well despite of coaching because they get good talent.

THe OP said they were moving to Bethesda. I thought this is where their home is located, not that they are choosing to play for Bethesda.

This is probably all OP needs to see to get validation from the PP's to say to stay away from BSC. Is this what you want your kid to experience?

Is that DG and KL, or the new guy they have? DG is probably the most talked about person on this board. He is what he is and people seem to love or hate him. They put him with the youngest Super Y this summer, which didn't seem like a wise decision as he berated 8 and 9 year old girls during games.

My DD plays for BSC and we're generally content and not leaving so this isn't BSC bashing, but it has been disappointing to see the lack of positive, inspirational women role models in the club. There is currently one female coach of a 1st team (u10). Last year the only one was u9. All three girls age group directors are men. There is nothing inherently wrong with men coaching girls sports. And this isn't just BSC. Potomac and MRM are pretty much all men too. More a reflection on girls soccer in general that seems particularly glaring in Montgomery County.

Do people really let their kids get yelled at like this? These are grown men with adolescent girls. W…T…F?

My kids’ friends were all going to. BSC and I was like…..why???
I think they like the idea that they can move up the ranks—people are always working for that gold ring.

Yes, I mean at McLean it's JA, amiright? Many clubs have folks like this and parents who are okay with it to let them play for that person for multiple seasons.

Please BSC had female coaches who were more abusive vs what is posted above. Looks like that style of coaching is ingrained there.

DG is Mary Poppins compared to KL, who is now terrorizing the younger girls teams. And by the way, this video is one of this duo’s milder performances.

If this is how they treat girls during a game that they know is getting recorded, then what’s going on at practices?

Practices are mild compared to games. My DD plays on 09 ECNL team and I was also at this game. Sure, its not for everyone but honestly these girls are playing and I have watched almost all of the players develop from both Dave amd Kevin’s coaching. The only complaint I know of is KL’s joysticking and the occasional “crossing the line” comment. Look no further than results. Years 2009 thru 2006 will likely make the ECNL playoffs this year. No other girls club in our area can say that, including FCV GA team. The 2008 team has gone from the very bottom and now sit in 3rd place.
