There's a long history of similar incidents at these segregated schools. This is why it's so critical that they rethink the boundaries and diversify these schools.

There's a long history of minorities committing these crimes so that everyone assumes it's white kids. Then the police say, "we don't comment on the race of the perpetrators." It's the perfect smear campaign.

Similar to all of the white supremacists who infiltrated the BLM marches and broke windows and caused violence to smear BLM.

There is actually evidence of minorities committing these acts in schools, unlike what you state.

This happens every few years there. Nothing new. Been going on for decades.

JUst because it happens every couple of weeks at one W another doesn't make it okay.

Ok, so what do you propose be done about it? MCPS took out the SRO's - remember those folks there to help stop this kind of stuff. Guess the MS-13 came from another school to do it, right?

SROs hung around at night waiting to catch graffiti artists?

You can argue about SROs all day long, but this isn't helping your case.

SROs were unnecessary and a drain on tax dollars better spent elsewhere.

Clearly with all the new issues there are, SRO's are helpful in preventing some of this. School staff cannot do everything especially when parents like you simply don't care about their kids behavior.

So THAT’S why you suggest the SROs? We know what kids they were surveiling.

A 17 years old POC spread painted a storage structure in Whitman HS two years ago .

Is this a surprise? Parents stopped parenting or caring.

Us, too. Why do people assume it was WJ population that did the graffiti on the outside of a school - seems more likely that kids from a rival school would do it to mess up a school that they don't like - perhaps because the school is inclusive. Reserving any judgment until the perpetrators are found.

Yeah, I’ll also reserve judgement either way.

Agree with the other PP. they should put up cameras. Seems like we need camera everywhere now.

We had issues with threatening phone calls at our synagogue a few years ago. Turns out the person making the calls was a Jewish Israeli teen.

Do you meant that When a POC painted a N word on school property one can blame his parents? What happen if it is a whote kid? Because the white kid is born racist?

Oh, wait. It's a W so must be bashed.

WJ is not really in a location that gets a lot of foot traffic.

You’re joking. It’s at the intersection of 355 and Rock Spring a ¼ mile from the interstate behind a shopping plaza.

Agree and two bus stops at the front and two in the side. Lots of random people walking by or near the school at all hours.

NP. My son goes to WJ and while driving him to school today we were talking about the graffiti. He said that there are tons of cameras around that area of the school and heard that the camera's show one person doing the vandalism. Why haven't they identified this person yet?
He also said that the school is having all social studies classes give talks/presentations tomorrow. Very curious what will be said.

Us, too. Why do people assume it was WJ population that did the graffiti on the outside of a school - seems more likely that kids from a rival school would do it to mess up a school that they don't like - perhaps because the school is inclusive. Reserving any judgment until the perpetrators are found.

Does Walter Johnson even have a "rival school"?

I know. There's a new post about another hate incident at one of these schools every couple of weeks. It's like clockwork which is unfortunate. I feel this would be a lot less frequent if these schools were more diverse.

Most probably the lack of maturity and insecurities drives these hateful behaviors. This area is already diverse if you look around unless you walk around pretending its not.

My mixed son is at WJ, attended a Bethesda area elementary and middle school, and never once had issues with race or heard racist comments.

Please remember that DCUM is not an accurate representation of reality.

I believe that people in Bethesda are hyperaware of race and that’s why you hear it discussed. My son’s friend is in a lower-income MCPS cluster, and has described astoundingly racist situations that go unaddressed by the school, despite parental complaints, just because there are more pressing issues the school has to deal with, like drugs and gangs. My son’s friend actually left MCPS in part because the school ignored complaints.

why is that every time there is a hateful behavior, someone always comes with post like these?
