I was in Eastern KY, and they pray to the lord before the start of the football game. How would react if we did that in LCPS?

Private for players who choose it? Yes. For the whole team? No.

In public school? No

I’m a Christian and an interfaith minister. I really don’t like it. I’m from the south and there is prayer before everything. When we bought a home in Mississippi, the seller asked to open our closing transaction with prayer.

I pray. I encourage others to pray and/or meditate. I believe in the power of prayer. But, I don’t think prayer should ever be on display at a public event. Not everyone believes in a God. Not everyone believes in the same God. And not everyone is comfortable with hypocritical Christianity on display.

Absolutely not.

Fine. As long as they rotate to give each religion their own week and to choose their own prayer (including atheists and Church of Satan).

Christianity's turn should come up once every five years or so.

I'm a Presbyterian and absolutely not. Separation of church and state is important.

I'm also not cool with alternating prayers because electing religion over non religion also violated separation of church and state.

If students want to pray in their own initiative, that is not an issue. Public school official led prayers are, however.

No way! Are you kidding me? Might as well do a rain dance and sacrifice a goat.

No - religious beliefs are inappropriate to force on the others attending. I wouldn’t get bent out of shape if was something mild and sort of generic good wishes, but wouldn’t appreciate it. How about if somebody else wants to quote from other religious sources that are not comparable with your beliefs - would that be okay?

No, not in a public school. Okay for a private religious school.

I take it these people aren't big fans of Matthew Chapter 6 which admonishes Christians to avoid ostentatious prayer. "Be not as the hypocrites for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they will be seen by people."

I'm not Christian but I like you.

Freedom of religion (including none) is kinda a major founding principle of this country - those with authoritarian tendencies are a clear threat to our current republic.

I am increasingly however in favor of a break-away collection of states with their own tax base, laws and norms of behavior (including no religious freedom). They can make a big show of praying (and not getting vaccinated to show how they love their neighbor...). Like Brexit. We could call it Trexit.

Not ok, and I am Christian.

And Presidential Inaugurations.

And if when you become President, you don't want a prayer, that's fine. You should get to do what you want at your own inauguration.

OH no it would not be "nice"

Which religion would you like? Muslem, Buddest, Jewish, Catholic, Wicka, etc...

I believe we all believe in GOD, so we say Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen.
Even if you are Muslim, Jewish, Wicka we still believe in one God.

What???? Do you really have no understanding of other faith paths. “Wicca” certainly does not recognize your “one god”. Buddhist don’t worship your god. Atheists and Agnostics aren’t praying to your god. So many other examples.…. Read a damn book.

/Interfaith Minister who is very uncomfortable with public displays of piety.
