I was Mimi growing up. My dad was pretty preppy. Not super rich but definitely an old preppy family.

My Mom a Margaret was called ‘Madge’ in college by her friends. She hated it but maybe it would be considered cool now idk.

I have a Margaret. I don’t understand trying to come up w/ a nn? Isn’t the point that a nn evolves in an organic way? Related to something about the child or someone pronounces or can’t pronounce the name? It seems really strange to decide a nn before you even know the child?

This is the correct answer. The richest woman I know is nn "Scotch." Think Bunny Williams, etc. (Bunny was nn for birth name of Bruce Boxley Blackwell).

Yep. The unrelated nn is definitely the most preppy.

Sexualized how? It's a beautiful name. I was just talking to my husband about how much he likes Peg. We try to see Peg at least once a week.

Margaret by itself is a lovely name. Unfortunately if we used her baby talk name it would be Maggot, so....

I never understand when people don't want their child to be called by their first name. If you don't like it, don't name your child that name!

I like Mimi but she may not like that as she grows up. I think of it more as a nickname for Miriam or Camille.

I love everything about nicknames and purposefully chose names with nickname potential. I hate that my name has no diminutives. It’s bugged me that my name doesn’t fit me and can’t change as I grow.

My dad was a Bobby who became a Rob and then later became a Bob

I love my kid's name, but I don't like some of the nickname options for it so we proactively chose a nn we do like. Letting them develop organically sometimes ends with them having a nickname you don't like.
