Anywhere in the world just pull you back like a magnet?

For me, it is east Africa. The draw to go back is so strong. If i never went anywhere else in the world again, but there, I'd be content. It is like the dust and permeated every cell in my body.

You go up the mountain, and the air is cleaner and fresher than anywhere else and you watch the sunrise on the surrounding mountaintops. You feel free! As long as you avoid Chamonix which is super polluted now, thanks to unbridled tourism.

It's Charleston, SC. We lived there for a couple years in our 20's and it still holds a really special place in my heart. I have to go back at least once per year.

It's the sounds and smells. Walking around in the early mornings while people in the market are getting set up for the day, getting my coffee, and sitting on a swing at the pier.

In particular i feel like Kenya and Tanzania are magical. Sounds corny, but ive never felt closer to God than out on the savannah. In Kenya the coast in the Indian ocean is unlike anything I've ever laid my eyes on. Wild, beautiful, unspoiled. But really the landscape, the wildlife. What you see on TV pales in comparision to what your eyes see up close. It is like looking back in time, to a time when the earth was wild. I'm pulled because all of that is dying. It will be gone in our lifetime. The poaching and the demand from China for these animal tusks, horns, and various body parts is overwhelming the land. The corruption of these governments is allowing it to happen and the people who are trying to save it are overwhelmed and beaten. It is like watching an apocalypse. Its sad.

OP here. Yes, sounds and smells play such a big part in this draw. It's the small things.

You should. I truly believe it's our last chance. Its beautiful and tragic at the same time. I see why people dedicate their entire lives and forgo modern conveniences and put their life at risk for not just the animals, but efforts all over Africa. It pulls you in and changes you if you are in the least bit sensitive to the world around you.

Ireland
We drove all over the country, as well as into Northern Ireland, but the western (Atlantic) coast was my favorite area.
Beautiful scenery. Friendly, welcoming people.
