What are your thoughts on bamboo?

Is even "non invasive" or clumping bamboo a bad idea?

All bamboo is a bad idea.

Non-invasive and slow-growing can be lovely, especially in a Asian-style garden. Just know which type you're getting!

DON'T do it! It's a weed. It spreads and is impossible to get rid of.

Signed, been fighting with previous owner's bamboo for 10 years...

Luckily, I've never planted it but I've heard horror stories. You'll never be rid of it. When I see it now, I just think what a shame.

Bamboo makes good flutes

I think it's beautiful. It's an underused evergreen hedge that comes in many varieties.

Saying all bamboo is one thing is the equivalent of saying all evergreens are the same. There is a lot of variety. Some are gorgeous, some are not attractive.

the problem around here nurseries are shit. Merrifield, meadows, ect. while is nice that the tag on the pot says is a slow growing clumper... but three years later you find out that is not. and you are basically fucked.

much easier to to just say no... or plant it in a planter

OP, do you like your neighbors who adjoin to your property? Are you the type of person not to trim bamboo before the first snowfall? Do your neighbors take pride in their grassy lawns?

If you can answer NO, then go ahead and get some bamboo and order from Fast-growing trees.com\

I have bamboo which was already established for decades. I love it and have two different variants one thick and another thin.
Both my neighbors, who I bearly see do not like the bamboo and have asked over time if I would consider removing and splitting a new fence.
I told them that they have plenty of side yard to build their own fence and I prefer to look and hear my bamboo on a windy day then a stupid fence.

DO IT, you will not REGRET IT.

Wow...lovely. Bamboo is highly invasive and can be a pita for your neighbors. We have one who has it along the front sidewalk - every snowstorm the sidewalk becomes impassable - some rainstorms too. I hate it. Though I like the neighbor.

PP here, I totally here ya.
My neighbors are dicks thats why they wanted to build a new fence.
Too remove bamboo you would have too dig a decent size trench. And even then can still comeback.

It is highly invasive and forgot to mention about heavy rainstorms which will cause the bamboo too lean on its side.
However, I rather look at my bamboo then the sides of McCraftsman.
