I have bamboo which was already established for decades.  I love it and have two different variants one thick and another thin. 
Both my neighbors, who I bearly see do not like the bamboo and have asked over time if I would consider removing and splitting a new fence.  
I told them that they have plenty of side yard to build their own fence and I prefer to look and hear my bamboo on a windy day then a stupid fence.

Wow...lovely.  Bamboo is highly invasive and can be a pita for your neighbors.  We have one who has it along the front sidewalk - every snowstorm the sidewalk becomes impassable - some rainstorms too.  I hate it.  Though I like the neighbor.[/quote]

PP here, I totally here ya.
My neighbors are dicks thats why they wanted to build a new fence. 
Too remove bamboo you would have too dig a decent size trench.  And even then can still comeback.

It is highly invasive and forgot to mention about heavy rainstorms which will cause the bamboo too lean on its side.
However, I rather look at my bamboo then the sides of McCraftsman.
