Good schools in minority areas

Wondering why PG county, which has a huge African American population of successful professionals, with good HHI has such terrible schools. Are those kids in privates? Do they go to the publics and perform poorly? Can someone explain this?

All of my educated AA friends from HS who live in PG now send their kids to Catholic school.

I have one AA acquaintance in Bowie who had her kid in private school K through 12th (and he just started at a decent college last year).

I'm thinking if the professionals sent their kids to the local schools, the schools would likely improve.

From what I've read on DCUM, educated parents of color seem to choose private school more than their white peers.

We live in Bowie and send our kids to public. We love our elementary school. Will reassess for middle school and beyond.

Tasker MS in Bowie sucks and I do not think the other MS is much better.

Is it because their neighborhood schools are bad? Do the black people in Bethesda send their kids to private school in general?

I'm black in east Montgomery county and I send my kids to public school. No regrets!

Is it because it is a good school? If you lived in PG would you use the public schools?

In PG, yes.

We're AA and we moved to MoCo instead of PG because we wanted the option of a good school district. So far, MCPS and Montgomery county as a whole have been a good fit for our two children.
