I live in Vienna; should I move to Bethesda?

Anonymous
I've lived in VA for 12 years and DH is from VA. We do not know MD well at all. But, we are looking to reduce our commute without sacrificing schools, and I wonder if Bethesda makes sense. One of us commutes to Farragut area; the other currently commutes to Bolling AFB in Anacostia but could change jobs to work in downtown DC or Silver Spring.

We want 2500 square feet for under $1M, sidewalks to good schools, and a commute of 20-30 minutes to Farragut. Does Bethesda make sense? Cabin John, or only the parts right by the DC border? Any tips about where to look or what to look for would be welcome. Thanks!

Put 2500 sq feet and a top price of 1M into redfin. See what you get. It's a number less than 10. Most of them are in North Bethesda, not sure if that would help your commute.

I don't think you'll be able to get 2500 square feet under a million on that side of Bethesda. Also commute to Farragut would only be 20 minutes if you took metro. I'm in Glen Echo and it takes at least 35 minutes during rush hour.

Try PG, you might like it

Why not try McLean near the parkway? That would significantly cut your commute, schools are better or on par with Bethesda (depending on which MoCi school), and you wouldn't have to take on MD taxes.

You can do better with a private school in PG than many public schools in Montgomery.

We live in Bethesda and you can get 2,500 sf for unfer a million if you are willing to do some renovation. Try Glen Echo Heights and Mohican Hills. Maybe Brookmont as well.

this home is in the best school cluster in the DC metro area and is right on the entrance to Clara Barton which is an amazing cut through to the beltway in the morning. It cuts directly to either the American legion or almost to 270 by passing so much of the worst parts of 495

highly doubtful considering they are in PG, which one?

OP, why Bethesda? I don't think moving to Bethesda would make a difference. On the map, both jobs are at about 6 oclock and you are moving from Vienna at 11 oclock to 1 oclock. It would make more sense to move to Arlington instead. Arlington is much closer to Farragut than Bethesda is.

And if you want to live on Macarthur Blvd. right next to the entrance to the Clara Barton Parkway, I have several bridges to sell you.
