I live in Vienna; should I move to Bethesda?

Anonymous
Op, I live in Bethesda and highly recommend the commute, the schools the community, etc. Used to live near Vienna off of Nutley, much better commute and quality of life, not as crowded as Vienna. I encourage you to visit some open houses over the weekend in the close in neighborhood of Bethesda, not North Bethesda which these days is really Rockville. With the possibility of a job change to Silver Spring, commute would be much more manageable.

Agree but no sidewalks in any of those hoods. GEH and MH feeds to Wood Acres which is definitely not walkable since you have to cross Mass Ave. Another option is Westgate and Green Acres. There are definitely houses under $1 million and you can walk to Westbrook, although still not on sidewalks. Can also walk to Westland, part of which is on sidewalks.

But, we are looking to reduce our commute without sacrificing schools, and I wonder if Bethesda makes sense. One of us commutes to Farragut area; the other currently commutes to Bolling AFB in Anacostia but could change jobs to work in downtown DC or Silver Spring.

We want 2500 square feet for under $1M, sidewalks to good schools, and a commute of 20-30 minutes to Farragut. Does Bethesda make sense? Cabin John, or only the parts right by the DC border? Any tips about where to look or what to look for would be welcome. Thanks!

this home is in the best school cluster in the DC metro area and is right on the entrance to Clara Barton which is an amazing cut through to the beltway in the morning. It cuts directly to either the American legion or almost to 270 by passing so much of the worst parts of 495

And if you want to live on Macarthur Blvd. right next to the entrance to the Clara Barton Parkway, I have several bridges to sell you.

+1, and on the market since Jan. -- probably due to its horrible location.

Your commute to Bolling will be horrendous

They said they wanted schools besides I don't think a single person has ever moved form Virginia to silver spring. Maybe Woodbridge residents might be tempted to buy in silver spring proper but couldn't as is more exspensive.

McLean Hamlet area? Kent Gardens area in McLean? You would be close to Beltway and GW Parkway without having to drive through Tysons or deal with 66. Good luck

Can you get in those locales for under $1m?

We live in Bethesda and our street as well as all those around us have sidewalks. We're near Pyle school. I'll agree it's not that common though.

Not bad post. Anything close to the beltway on ramp would be good in McLean and better schools than Bethesda or Vienna

She doesn't want to sacrifice schools ass

You can do better with a private school in PG than many public schools in Montgomery.

highly doubtful considering they are in PG, which one?

NP here, but if they are living in PG close to Bolling AFB and one parent is commuting to Farrugut, then they can drive in and have access to most of the good private schools in DC. Plus they will get more and better house in PG for a lot less (meaning they can afford private in DC).

I think Bethesda would be a big mistake if they are commuting to Bolling and Farrugut. If kids go to schools in the Bethesda area, then the parents will have commuting h*ll to deal with for drop-off and pick-up and for emergencies.

Wow. That looks like a great deal, but you're not near metro.

Do you have guns and/or confederate flags? If yes you won't like Bethesda.

Yes but that can be a good thing, being on the river and next to Glen echo but still right off the DC line is perfect for some.
