Court hearing Tuesday for suspect in Savopoulos quadruple murder
Daron Wint, who is charged with first-degree murder in the May killings of three members of the Savopoulos family and a housekeeper, has hired a Fairfax-based law firm to represent him, replacing the public defenders who have represented him since his arrest. A hearing is scheduled for Tuesday in D.C. Superior Court, at which time defense attorney Sean Hanover is expected to enter his appearance as Wint’s new attorney. In a brief interview Monday, Hanover said Wint’s family retained him on Saturday. http://www.washingtonpost.com/local/crime/court-hearing-tuesday-for-suspect-in-savopoulos-quadruple-murder/2015/06/15/de7162c4-13b1-11e5-89f3-61410da94eb1_story.html |
I am very surprised that the Wint family would retain a relatively novice lawyer with limited criminal experience over having PDS represent him. |
Given the restraining order, I hope they paying for a crap lawyer stack the deck and ensure a guilty verdict. The thought of it makes me feel better. |

This thread seems no longer to be a " hot topic" yet older threads that have been "locked" are still appearing up front. I think this thread still being searched frequently, so why pushed off the page? |
I don't see any older threads in hot topics. I think threads older than 30 days no longer appear as "hot topics". |
So to those with legal knowledge here, why do you think the family made this move? The public defender seemed competent. Is there some strategic reason for doing this? Is there something going on behind the scenes that made the family think this is necessary? Will we learn anything new from the hearing tomorrow? Thanks in advance for your opinions! |
"Through his work in the asylum arena, Mr. Hanover has become accomplished at defending gang members and individuals convicted of drug offenses, and other serious crimes, in immigration court. He has expanded the criminal defense aspect of Hanover Law to include Felony 1, Felony 2, and capital cases (including homicide cases). "
http://www.hanoverlawpc.com/legal_team.php Are they trying to keep Wint from being deported after his trial? What does this say about Wint? I wonder if it is his mother or father who is behind this? |
I'm surprised his family has even chosen to get him a lawyer. I mean it sounds like his father, step-mother and a sister had their own problems with DW's violence and temper. My guess is lawyer approached the family and convinced them, wanting the publicity. Better publicity than advertising on late-night local TV. I'm not an expert on legal ethics. Can he write a book later or help DW write one? Movie rights? Seems there is great potential gain for this man even if he loses the case, and of course I hope he does loose. |
Lawyer actually gives me chills with a practice that represents gangs, illegal aliens, etc. IMO he doesn't sound too savory himself. |
Maybe the new lawyer is desired due to the involvement of DDWint's family members? Or am I mistaken about a Wint brother involved in the convoy from Brooklyn?
Anyway, I'm still very curious about the the use of the Amerit truck, and its vague potential use for one of the Savopoulos' automobile collection. |
Maybe Wint moved on from DCPS because he didn't like their case strategy. Just speculating, but maybe DCPS was encouraging him to take a plea in exchange for a somewhat reduced sentence due to the DNA evidence and he didn't like their advice. Maybe the new lawyer is making more positive (but perhaps less realistic?) projections about how he will defend Wint. |
I bet you're right. Who would any lawyer want to make a living defending gang memberd as his specialty? PP who said that's creepy is right!!! |
