Get your pta and council member to push for smaller boundaries and you'll have an art room. But you might not have a Wilson feed.

Come on OP, stop being so freaking annoying and cryptic. Provide a source or say something with a bit of depth, otherwise don't post, please.

DCPS has announced the closing of Fillmore this June

There are two meetings to attend to learn more about this disturbing development:

Monday, September 26 at 7pm at the Tenley-Friendship Library. This is the Ward 3 EdNET/Wilson meeting.
Tuesday, September 27 location and time TBD; if interested in saving this important institution please email jclaud19@gmail.com

They must have immediate plans to build new space for arts classes for the affected Fillmore schools...right? It would be strange for every other DCPS school to have art rooms but the closed Fillmore schools would not, after closing fillmore. Have they announced the construction plans yet?

DCPS does this EVERY YEAR! Now cue the parade of exasperated parents who will have to give up loads of their free time to fight the closure of Fillmore...again. It's seriously sadistic; makes you wonder if DCPS central admin just likes to see people squirm.

It must be awfully hard on Fillmore employees to have the rug potentially pulled out from underneath them every year. I don't know how they can keep any good teachers.

Can someone explain to me how Fillmore works?

It keeps everyone fighting this battle over and over and distracts from things like subpar PARCC scores at Wilson.

It's just about the $$. The cost of transportation b/w the schools and Fillmore in particular. That's always the justification.

Good- let's hope it sticks this time.

I'm sure the cost of constructing new arts rooms for these schools would cost a lot more than buses. Bus expenses can't be the real reason, considering the neglect that closing Fillmore would cause.

No the proposal for many of the schools is "art on a cart" where the classes are taught in the regular classrooms

Art in their classrooms is the alternative for some of these schools, although others are being renovated in such a way that there will be dedicated art space.

Aside from cost of busing, schlepping over the Fillmore, getting in and out of the buildings, make this a lengthy disruption to the school day .
