Fillmore killed....again.

Great history. Times have changed just a bit since 1974.

What you miss is that it's not like DCPS just came up with the idea of closing Fillmore. They have been continuously trying to do it for 42 years. The PTA's of the affected schools have been fighting DCPS for 42 years. The fight is in everybody's institutional DNA. There is enormous distrust and suspicion on all sides.

Your personal brain farts aside, Ross is the opposite of a hot mess like Roosevelt or Coolidge. Seriously. I'm not a Ross parent, or even a DCPS parent, but that's a head-up-your-butt idea. It's a high-performing school, bursting at the seams with IB kids. Only someone who uses their anus as their mouth would advocate closing it (at least out loud).

You don't think merging it with Garrison, SWWFS, Seaton, or Marie Reed, all which are within 10 blocks could better serve a larger population of kids?

fine, don't close it. Just shrink its boundaries and send some kids to Seaton and Garrison.

FWIW, I'm in favor of combining Bunker Hill and Noyes too, I'm just for making sure that all kids get served, and elementary buildings (particularly ones that just transitioned from being Education campuses) aren't just using 40% of their space.

No. High performing schools with long waitlists should not be closed.

Why? Because they are not the problem! Let us please solve REAL problems, instead of trying to "fix" things that are not broken.

Spoken like an envious Seaton/Garrison parent. Amiright?

Exactly. If it's not broken, don't eff with it. "Management 101" should not be forgotten, even at DCPS

That's not a bad idea, but those are both crappy, under-enrolled schools. No doubt a good charter would be happy to land in either one of those facilities and begin being a high-performing school with a permanent home by next September.
