| Can someone please recommend a doctor that specializes in menopause? Please include any experience you had with them. Thanks |
| What area of town OP? I love my doc, but she is in Bethesda. |
| I'm near Reston/Herndon but will drive for someone who is really good. Can you please tell me how she helped you? |
|
| I am not OP, but live in MD and would like to hear more about the doc in Bethesda... |
|
This is the PP with the doctor in Bethesda.
I see Dr. Marko, found her by searching on Menopause.org. They have a listing of menopause "certified" doctors on their database. Its nationwide. Cannot say enough good things about her. she listens, she is up on all the latest research, excellent bedside manner too. She is part of the GW Medical Faculty. https://www.gwdocs.com/obgyn-obstetrics-gynecology/kathryn-marko |
| Did she recommend hormone replacement therapy? Are you feeling better with what she recommends? |
Yes, I specifically went to her because my original OBGYN that I had been with for years would not give me anything for HRT. every time I asked, her response was "learn to live with it, maybe light a few candles to see if that will help put me "in the mood"" Really?? Anyhow, Dr. Marko knows her stuff. She started me on a combo of Estrogen (patch) and progesterone. I am 50, stopped getting my period at 48. My main complaints were: 1) dryness 2) hot flashes 3) total lack of libido #1 and #2 are completely gone now/remedied. #3 is finally starting to come back! Woohoo!! |
| Thanks for the info. I think I will call her. I have all of your symptoms plus insomnia and memory lapses. I'm 44, confirmed meno. I assume she will talk about risks, that has always been my concern. |
Oh yes, I forgot to add insomnia to my list! how did I forget that I guess my memory hasn't gotten better.
My sleep is much better. I would say 80% improvement! Regarding the risks, yes she will ask you a series of questions about your overall health because obviously there are some women who should not do HRT. I have none of the typical risk factors, so the process was easy. The staff is also excellent, although I must tell you that they do sometimes run late - which is not so atypical for a doctor's office. I think its more the norm actually. So if you can put up with waiting a bit, you'll otherwise have a great experience. |
| Can anyone recommend someone in NoVA? I'm early 40s but feel like an alien has invaded my body. I went from normal sex drive to actually being repulsed. Racing heart. Exhausted. always feel like i am vibrating or trembling. Irregular cycles. I can't deal with this for 10 years, at times i want to literally disappear. |
this is the PP with the doctor in Bethesda. I found Dr. Marko on Menopause.org. check out their database (link below) to see if they have a menopause-"certified" doctor in VA. http://www.menopause.org/for-women/find-a-menopause-practitioner Actually the menopause.org website is a phenomenal resource overall. |
HRT is highly recommended for women under 45. Women who become menopausal before 45 have some scary outcomes without HRT. |
| I know, that's why I'm asking. Although your statement is not true for all women. This runs in my family and nobody has used hrt or had any awful outcomes. I personally want to feel human again so I want to give it a try. |
Again it's statistics. But here is a recent blurb: https://medlineplus.gov/news/fullstory_160982.html It will absolutely make you feel human again! |
