APS - School Shifts in the Fall?

Anonymous
Some of you have too much time on your hands. After reading this thread that derailed many, many pages ago, I'm thinking that everyone in Smart Restart and APE need to take a weekend off and pay loving attention to their kids, who when not pulled out as props in a zero sum game, sit alone at home while their parents play whose the bully(TM) on the internet.

There is a middle that doesn't think much of any of you.

Also shout out to the teachers who commented several pages ago. SR and APE who think they are speaking for you. Thank you for making my children's school year a little more bright under these circumstances, in spite some crazy a%% parents.

This. Both sides have gone nuts. They don’t speak for me or almost anyone else I know and talk to in Arlington every day. Most people are normal and rational, and they certainly aren’t obsessively posting on FB or Twitter and doxxing and bullying other people. This is not normal behavior. How did we end up here with these two groups of people claiming to represent the spectrum of Arlington parents on return to school issues?

This all got me curious. EHN/APE was asking for help from Open Fairfax on how to recall board members.

So I guess this is what we have to look forward to in Arlington? Oh goody.

I don't really care if Miranda is behind a FOIA. I very much would like to know what her connection is to APE's recall efforts.

I can only assume it's Mary's campaign people that keep posting this. a) the recall effort is only hypothetical and b) Miranda already said she doesn't support it

This also was addressed many, many pages ago. No one cares either besides some possible SR folks. It will never, ever happen.

I actually know one of our board members personally. We don't talk about this school year or any board initiatives, because work stays at work, but they have said that being on the board has been thankless and quite lonely. When everyone wants their attention and hates them at the same time, they'd probably welcome the demotion.

Do I have to post the MT quote again disavowing any connection to a non-existent recall effort? It's already been 3 times...

Oh what the hell, I may as well.

BE: thanks for your questions. APE has on several occasions noted that there is no "APE lawsuit," and I've posted in this forum about it as well. As a candidate for School Board, I support measures which would return APS to in-person instruction for more days this school year, for those families and children who need/want it. I don't support measures that don't advance that cause, and you may count in that category the lawsuit and the recall. Finally, as several have already noted, neither the lawsuit or the recall are backed by APE (nor the Republican party to my knowledge, though I'm a Democrat).

Then why did EHN say in her post to Open FCPS that APE is planning the recall? Miranda sidestepped that one for sure.

EHN sure has been quiet this week.....

"Quiet?" ROFL! All they've done is whine endlessly, b*tch incessantly, scream and stomp their feet all year long.

I hope if they refuse to abide by the rules of decorum, they kick them out on their ears.

parents are fed up and are not allowed to have dialogue at the meetings. The very least we can do is to clap in show of support for one another.. the SB silences support.

They have never allowed clapping, as you’d know if you ever paid attention before now.

Y'all they aren't doing their jobs or taking ownership over their decisions. A little civil disobedience is sometimes they way to show you're fed up. I'd also like to understand the reason for not identifying board members or APS staff by name in remarks. Is there skin really that thin that they can't be addressed? Have they heard of the first amendment? Of course, if you're doling out comments say Dr. Duran all you want!

You are starting to sound like the White parents in Boston during school desegregation. Really, if this is what has spurred you to action, and what you’re willing to become disobedient about THIS YEAR, you might need to take a long look in the mirror.

As far as I'm concerned, yelling at a nonnative speaker for going overtime is just as bad as SR's anti APE troll account. The amount of bullying among Arlington parents is just so unreal.

I'm sure Monique was about to cut her off, but the crowd intervened. It seems to bring Monique so much joy to cut people off from commenting.

You are very committed to pushing this false narrative.

You don’t know that it’s a “SR” account. Just that it’s someone who supports SR.

But, even if it's not an official SR account, it was clear from who shared it (BE) and who follows it (everyone SR) that SR implicitly supports bullying APE. If you are so anti-doxxing teachers, admins should take a clear stand on not doxxing people from APE too. But instead, the husband of a SR admin and constant AEM poster shared it to the world. Looks bad, doesn't it? The hypocrisy, like someone said above, is unreal.

But I don't like APE either. They need to sit down too, and let everyone have their turn without the screaming. It's not that big of a deal that someone went two seconds over. It would be nice if more speakers were allowed to at least finish their sentence before getting cut off.

It’s fair to call them out on sharing it but you can’t attribute it to them.

Well, people seem to be attributing APE husband's FOIA to his wife and Miranda, so *shrugs*

So, just because other people do it, that makes it OK? Grow a f-ing backbone.

Just because a supporter of a candidate or advocacy group does something, doesn't mean the candidate or advocacy group is responsible.

Stop trying to attribute them to SR....or Miranda.

BE, an active SR member married to an admin shared a deader than dead Twitter handle. It's his fault that SR members are even exposed as trolls. Go talk to him.

There are more obvious SR member APE trashing twitter handles. I just found @stararl. You're welcome.

Yes, you can gripe about him sharing it. But you can’t attribute it to him - or anyone really. It could be anyone who hates APE and support SR.

Bwahahaha. Yet your side is convinced that APE husband is working for Miranda because of his wife. You can't have it both ways.

What “side”? Not everyone is part of APE or SR...

I’ve already said that it doesn’t sound like Miranda knew about the FOIA.

That Twitter account could be anyone who hates APE and supports SR.

I blame Trump for this nonsense. APS and every other liberal school district would have opened 2x a week in the fall and be open 5x a week now, but stupid Trump opened his mouth last summer and said he wanted schools open again and then it became partisan. Just like you can map vaccine doses with the vote, you can map school opening with the vote.

I wear a mask and I got my vaccine and I want schools open and I am not a republican. And APS is on-track to be one of the last districts in the country to re-open meaningfully, and that's sad for our children.

You can also map it out by people who believe in science and following CDC recommendations.

It wasn't Trump. We didn't have the data back then to know we could open safely (sorry, one daycare study wasn't sufficient). And we certainly didn't have vaccines, testing, PPE, etc.

Thank god we finally have all of that and our kids are back!

But our kids are not back! That's the point.

And check out the science-based recipe the local Catholic schools followed all year:
-- Require masks
-- Frequent sanitation (though we know now that mattered less)
-- Keeping students in learning pods
-- Requiring daily health checks
-- Quarantining classrooms and switching to virtual for 2 weeks if 1 student in a class test positive
-- Air filters in every classroom

And guess what? Miraculously, those schools have stayed open most of the year!

The kids ARE back. Mine are there right now, in fact!

So you count 2 days a week as back? Mine is in HS and is only "back" one full day and one part day because not all his teachers came back.

Yes, of course they’re “back”. We all wish they were all back 5 days but that’s not happening at the moment.

But my kids enter a school building every week.

You sound riDICKulous to say that they aren’t back.

Wow. How long did it take you to come up with that? Clever.

You are ridiculous if you can't distinguish between our children getting significant instruction time vs. breadcrumbs. Granted they were starving before ...

So you think it’s been so bad your children have been “starving” for years, and yet you haven’t moved them out of APS?

I 100% did! But I couldn't find spots for all of them. But yes, I think APS has sucked this year and I did in fact send kids to private school this year. Where, believe it or not, they've gotten 5 days a week of in-person education even during a global pandemic! Right here in Arlington! In regular old school buildings. With a school that is committed to in-person instruction as better for children. And just did what it could to make it work. I also have a spouse who has had to work in-person all year. And believe it or not, none of us have gotten COVID because we've worn masks, and not gone to restaurants, and not had friends over inside our home for a year.

I didn't push for APS to re-open prior to teachers getting vaccines. But at this point, teachers are vaccinated. And now I think APS needs to open it's doors for more meaningful instruction time, for my other kid who is still an APS student. And why on earth should I believe APS will be open 5 days next year? What is going to change between now and then? How are all these hard issues APS can't solve now going to go away? The pandemic is not going to end between now and September.

The numbers are dropping. We will be blue/yellow by fall.

And what if they aren't? Do we just stay home another year?

I also think CDC will revise guidelines based on new studies. We have TONS more data now than we did last summer.

I still feel like Duran will find reason not to return full-time.. I've lost all faith and trust in our SB.

He already said 5 days and there is a state mandate so you cray........

Never mind, catching up in AEM now and caught the gem of EHN trying to defend APE's heckling of the Latina mom, even though EHN was not there. So much for being quiet, should have known better!

This doesn't add up. She is on the steering committee of APE. APE is working on a recall. How is she not involved?
