Am I the only one who wondered if Nick was Hannah's new dad?

What? She lives on the opposite coast.

DP. Allegedly.

I did think this briefly. But I don't think he would have given June the names of "friendlies" nearby if so. And I think he would have just gotten Hannah out. Also, why wouldn't Hannah still be with the same family. The whole family probably moved for Hannah's safety from June.

Why is nobody worrying that Nichole might be Fred’s baby and not Nick’s? And now that Fred is going free might they end up in some kind of joint custody situation? How come nobody is proposing a DNA test?

A$$hole can try to insist on a paternity test, but if he’s the father the baby was conceived through rape.

I’m ready to see major cracks in Giliad. Slow diplomacy isn’t going to make for a very interesting show.

I’m pretty sure that some of the major characters still in Gilead are working on those cracks now.

I thought so too.

I agree. I thought he was testing her - risking nichole for access for Hannah.

I had the same thought. Despite Janine’s two #girlpower episodes, she has always been the Handmaids who seemed like she most liked the flavor of the Koolaid. She was glowing at Lydia’s praise, not just relieved.

Janine just needs to be loved. By June, by Aunt Lydia, by the sleazy guy in Chicago-- doesn't matter who.

I just thought he was testing her, seeing how far she would go to get back Hannah.

+1. I definitely got the impression he was testing her somehow.

First, there was a close up of June. Then, Hannah is in Colorado with no way to get her out. Fred and Serena cut a deal to testify against Gilead and tell everything so they will go free. Lots of long close ups of June’s face. Oh, and that very young wife from the farm who was so deeply abused is learning to be a Handmaid with Janine.

And more close ups of June...

And to finish the episode, one more close up of June.

So I’m not the only one who thinks the movie has got too much of June’s face… big and in your face… just ruins it.

And he feels a whole lot of guilt over everything he’s done to build and sustain Gilead. I think he’s going to try to protect whoever he can from his place as a Commander until he gets caught.

In her testimony, didn't June say something about Nick also not having a choice? I seem to recall her noting that Nick was following orders and didn't really have a choice, either.

Yes. She established that Serena gave them no choice. But later Nick became a commander and had a hand in awful things. And earlier, he was a part of the creation of Gilead (although it’s possible that he was essentially swept up in events with no choice then as well- we would need more back story to know for sure). He may get a pass on rape, but he would have some convincing to do to show a court that he was on the side of good through all of this. Unfortunately I don’t think that he will ever get a chance to prove it. I think he’s destined to be a martyr, possibly while trying to get Hannah out or doing something else to take down Gilead. If that scene in the Mary Magdalene school was supposed to be foreshadowing, it cast June as the “fallen woman” and Nick possibly the savior who will die for her sins. Notably, Aunt Lydia was also in the Jesus position in the Last Supper scene. Also a future savior? She’s showing signs of doubt.

I thought the same thing! I can see a storyline where Fred is free and tries to go after Nicole claiming he is the father.

Although it would be an emotional blow for June, he'd have no legal rights given the circumstances of conception.
