Comey is out!

He has been in office for well over 4 months and what has he done so far that represents a real threat to our democracy? We still have a free press, our elected representatives still openly express their opposition to Trump, late night comics still make fun of Trump, the courts still function and issue injunctions on EOs that they deem constitutionally questionable, people are still posting on this and other forums expressing their strong opposition to Trump both personally and in terms of policy and sometimes in quite offensive language.

I have lived for brief periods in countries where freedoms are proscribed to some degree or the other and the US is not even remotely akin to these countries and it would take a serious erosion of our democratic institutions for us to get anywhere close to those countries.

This hysteria about what Trump can do or is about to do is sheer nonsense. We have multiple safeguards to prevent autocracy in this country.

Except he's already broken multiple laws and Congress has done nothing about it. There's no one holding him accountable, Congress is expressly ignoring their Constitutionally bound duty.
So you're wrong - we are already slipping into something more autocratic/junta-controlled when compared to Obama's last day in office. The government is already breaking down.

This reeks of Bannon chaos theory. Does the Trump base GAF about Comey being fired or Sessions refusing himself? I doubt it. Look at the spin: Trump is a decisive leader who takes action.

A reporter was arrested for asking Secretary Price a question.

The FCC is investigating Stephen Colbert for making fun of Trump.

That may be the spin, but to those of us with eyes, ears and a brain see "Trump is a guilty little cuss who acts recklessly."

We know that Trump is in violation of the Emoluments Clause and breached the terms of the lease for his D.C. hotel. The President isn't subject to many ethics and conflict-of-interest regs. Not sure if any laws were broken yet by Trump.

There is no FCC investigation of Colbert.

You simply are not paying attention.

Our judicial system is being discredited and undermined.
Our press freedoms are being threatened and undermined.

If you don't already see and know this, then you need to open your eyes.

Trump wouldn't last 15 seconds in Washington Square.

How about intimidating a federal witness on his Twitter feed? Or is that only for witnesses in judicial court?

Provide specifics as to what he has done to actually impact our judicial system or press freedoms.

I heard and read when the right-wing would attack Obama and how he was undermining our democracy and it was just as nonsensical.

Threatened to dismantle the Ninth Circuit
Called a federal judge a "so-called judge"

Tweets like this:

Just cannot believe a judge would put our country in such peril. If something happens blame him and court system. People pouring in. Bad!

Splitting the Ninth Circuit has been discussed many times well before Trump because it is unwieldy among other reasons.

http://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/19/politics/lawmakers-trying-again-to-divide-ninth-circuit.html?_r=0

With regard to the "so-called judge" remark it was totally inappropriate but it did not change a thing really.

Yes, he makes comments disparaging decisions he does not like - and a president should not do so especially in the language he uses - but from a practical standpoint has it changed the outcome one iota?
