I feel like the government shutting down has almost zero downside for the underdog party. The vast majority of Americans will not see immediate job risk issues or immediate ramifications. Sure, it's not great for the TSA but they're not going to find a new career in a week. The dems should shut it down for however long they want. MAGA is psychotic. This is probably the most beige pushback you could give in the circs so they should feel zero pressure to back down until they have to for whatever political reason comes up.

This is one of the dumber posts I've ever read on DCUM.

Many Americans will feel the pain of the government shut down very soon.
This will come back to haunt the GOP.
Yeah, trump may fire lots of government workers, but most will be rehired.
Why is Trump so gung-ho to keep the government open? He knows it's going to kill the GOP if it goes on for a long time.
Finally, the Democrats are standing up and fighting, a bit.
We need a lot more of this.

The post is actually not dumb. You all are just very inside the beltway.

After the 2018–2019 shutdown, a Pew Research Center survey found that only 16% of people said they or a family member were “personally inconvenienced” by the shutdown — and only 7% said it was a major inconvenience. The vast majority (84%) said it had no impact on them.

I agree that the Dems should have shut it down. I just think everyone is overestimating how much the average person cares. You all care bc you are feds. The rest of us barely think about it

+1.

And backing up your claim as factually-accurate with statistical evidence from Pew is just more proof:

- DC is an absurdly biased, partisan bubble, plus

- DCUMAD is a progressive echo-chamber, not a discussion forum.

So you're a radical leftist?

It’s so weird how bad maga is at insulting people 😂

Oh no! We’re all gonna go cry about being called a ‘radical leftist’ or a ‘clown’

Get some better insults.

The "radical leftist" stuff is so tired.

So tired. And when you're a mouth breathing far right Nazi wannabe, everyone to the left looks radical to you.

So there are some lightbulbs on in Congress after all.

Only a few senators speak publicly - but they speak for those who don't. When you hear one Republican senator speak, they are saying what many Republican senators are thinking. (Except Rand Paul.)

They privately probably don’t want insurance premiums to go up either. Independent voters are going to drop like flies.

Funding the government as is for another year is a completely different issue than debating healthcare subsidies that expire in a month. In fact you can do both in parallel and not conflate the two.

Democratic Leadership Are Just As Complicit As MAGA
48,127 views Sep 30, 2025 The Warning with Steve Schmidt
While Trump's regime continues to acquire power in our government, the opposition party has done nothing to get in their way. Steve Schmidt looks at the lack of leadership in the Democratic party and calls for new voices to emerge in our fight against fascism

Steve is right. Democrats need to replace their leadership.

Why on earth would you make Trump and the Republicans cuts and pain easier on the voters? What the F. Democrats are workin hand and hand with Trump. There is no hope with the Vichy democrats as Trump’s partners.

Hey Dems demand the Epstein files, federal agents not wearing masks and tariffs checks for all. No one understands what you are doing.

Again, people, GOP controls all branches of government and wants to pass a budget that slashes the State Department by 84%, and other agencies by large numbers as well.

It means layoffs are coming.

The Democrats should not agree to that budget, or a CR. They need to let the GOP impale itself on its own sword.

The party in power is responsible for a shutdown. If the President implement layoffs during a shutdown, it's on his head.

Really? I thought the federal government was useless, didn't do anything, no one would notice a shutdown one way or the other. How is this a big mistake, if no one will even notice?

Some will notice.
Now Trump has his guy Vought firing people left and right.
These people losing jobs will be Democrats.
Democrats are letting Trump shrink the government even more with this shutdown.

Republicans claim they hate government and keep doing everything they can to destroy it. Why do they care?
Anonymous
So anyone know who is on the chopping block to lose their jobs permanently? Just a bunch a pawns on a chessboard with nothing really to gain.

I don’t see how they can find more people to fire. They would have done it already

Is the government shut down? I got mail. It seems like a big nothingburger.

Sometimes I wish they wish they would stop more services so people understand how serious it is. It doesn’t effect the personal lives of most people so nobody cares.

Absolutely. It should include everything. When it is just the things that take time for the effects to show up, it gives a flawed impression to the public about how much the fed gvt services matter.

77% of Feds are STILL WORKING. so of course no one sees any impacts. Many are longer term anyway, you wouldn’t see them on the first day. So dumb.
