Controlled opposition. https://www.timesofisrael.com/for-years-netanyahu-propped-up-hamas-now-its-blown-up-in-our-faces/amp/ There’s no state of Israel without terror groups. The only reason Israel exists as a unified country is because of its army and its mandated draft that brings the multi ethnic Israel as one. Israelis say this. Without threats, Israel can’t justify the amount of military aid they get from the US and without their military, their state and economy is not first world |
In the late 1980s, Yassin's network would evolve into the armed Islamist and nationalist group Hamas. Former Israeli officials have openly acknowledged Israel's role in providing funding and assistance to Yassin's network as a means of undermining the secular, left-wing Palestinian factions that made up the PLO.
Yassin was a blind quadriplegic sheik who couldn’t even read. How the heck did his group (Hamas) grow? Israel funded it |
Professor Avner Cohen, a former Israeli religious affairs official, publicly acknowledged that Hamas was "Israel's creation." Similar statements have been made by Yasser Arafat. For example, in an interview with Italian newspaper, Corriere della Sera in December 2001, he referred to Hamas as a "creature of Israel". |
Initially, it was a divide and conquer tactic to weaken the PLO. The PLO was waging a terror campaign against Israel at the time, so Israel encouraged the creation of a few alternatives who might be more cooperative with Israel. The Yassin network was one of them. There was no indication at the time that this network would later form into the violent Hamas. Yassin was a member of the Muslim Brotherhood, and the Muslim Brotherhood abandoned the use of violence in the 70s, which is about the time Israel was supporting the network. People are also ignoring Iran’s role in shaping all this. Iran gave Hamas about 70 million to 100 million a year, and as of 2023 gave them 350 million a year. Dwarfs anything Israel ever did for Hamas. Hamas wouldn’t be who they are today without Iran, and people who are saying “follow the money” should be looking at Iran instead. They are the biggest backers and supporters of Hamas, and they do it intentionally to antagonize Israel. |
Avner Cohen writes extensively about Israel’s nuclear arsenal. |
It’s like the US funding the creation of Al-Qaeda. In the 1980s the US backed the mujaheedeen who were fighting the Russian invasion of Afghanistan. Those fighters then became AlQaeda. |
Israel is not our ally from the NYT
https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/09/opinion/trump-iran-israel.html Very strange, you would never hear such a headline even just a few years ago and especially not in New York Times. What's going on? |
Trump and Netanyahu are not getting along right now. Hegseth cancelled his Tuesday trip to Israel. |
It has to do with Trump talking to the Iranians instead of going to war with them like Israel wants |
The Jews did this. |
I am not a Trump supporter but I applaud him in not starting a war with Iran just because Israel says so, good job! |
This would be amazing and probably end up saving tax payers trillions of dollars for not fighting another country on Netanyahu's list of places needing regime changes. We've already done 6 of 7 on his hit list with Iran being the only one remaining: Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, and Iran. |
PP here who was asking more about Israel funding Hamas. Appreciate everyone’s responses and the links so I can understand the issues better. Thank you. |
Because one of those things you can actually help fix today and the other you cannot. If you want to keep tilting at windmills go ahead. |
I actually gave substantial time (in fact, over 1/3 of my professional career) to helping fix that one thing. I didn’t need to serve others in need to justify my voice in this matter, but since you are more intent on disqualifying voices than addressing what the rest of the world is appalled by, there you have it. I don’t need to be told what to care about at this point; nor do I need to pay attention to anyone unwilling to unequivocally denounce the loss of tens of thousands of innocent lives. |
