Ordinary private citizens aren’t held to judicial standards. There’s no requirement for construction workers or bus drivers or waitresses to be apolitical or to avoid the mere appearance of impropriety.

Isn't Alito's wife one of those private citizens?

The idea that he would fly a flag designed and used during the American Revolution helps our youth learn what they failed to learn in school.

In a letter dated October 20, 1775,[1][2] General Washington's secretary, Colonel Joseph Reed, suggested a "flag with a white ground and a tree in the middle, the motto AN APPEAL TO HEAVEN" be used for the ships Washington commissioned.[5] Two heavily armed American scows, or "floating batteries," launched on the Charles River in September 1775 had used the Pine Tree flag as an ensign; in his letter, Reed described the banner he proposed as "the flag of our floating batteries."[2][1] The six schooners commissioned by Congress beginning in October 1775 to intercept British ships entering Boston—the USS Hancock, Lee, Franklin, Harrison, Lynch, and Warren—used the Pine Tree flag.[2][1]
The following year, on April 29, 1776,[2][1] the Massachusetts Council established the flag of the state navy with a resolution stating: "...that the Colours be a white Flag, with a green Pine Tree, and the Inscription, 'An Appeal to Heaven'."[1][5][2]

I mean you tried to troll...but it didn't work out well. There are probably some posts upthread you can learn from if you want to try again.

I look forward to him putting swastikas on his house to teach the youth of this country about this sacred symbol of ancient origins.

Sure. But how stupid or partisan do you have to be to not recognize or acknowledge that when you live with a Supreme Court Justice, that their impartiality is a major part of their job and that appearances are crucial to letting the public know a judge on the highest court of the land takes that impartiality seriously. Anyone who knows anything about ethics knows that appearances are an important part of the guidelines and you don't do things that could create the appearance of ethics violations even if you believe the act itself does not violate ethics codes. I work at a much lower level of the federal government than the SCOTUS and I receive ethics training annually that emphasizes this aspect of the ethics code. Don't do it if it causes the appearance of ethics violations even if it does not in itself cross over the line.

So she and he are either stupid are insanely partisan. Which is it?

Obviously hyper partisan while not even pretending that they're subject to ethics of any kind. But don't forget the option that he's a coward hiding behind his wife. His finger pointing there is now part of his legacy.

You would do well to educate yourself to what this flag now represents. I daresay the aforementioned patriots would rise from their graves in righteous indignation to see that their flag was now used by insurrectionists to further their fascist beliefs for a wannabe dictator so corrupt that his only reason for running for president is to PARDON HIMSELF for his high crimes and misdemeanors! Their disgust would know no depths that members of the highest court in the land are as corrupt as the former member of the Executive Branch.

She is not really and we’ve explained it to you a million times. It’s too complex for you to grasp - it requires professionalism. Something you don’t expect from your public servants but should.

I guess you commend Alito for being a Christian nationalist. You only had to scroll down on the page you quoted. “In the 2020s, the flag was appropriated by various far-right groups, Christian nationalists and Donald Trump's "Stop the Steal" campaign.[15][16] It has been described as "a symbol of right-wing extremism"[according to whom?][17] and a "banner of the far right."[according to whom?][16]” https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pine_Tree_Flag

But you’re happy to play dumb on this (as are the Wikipedia users who have the “according to whom?” tag on there. They, and you and scuzzy Alito, know full well what whistle you’re blowing.

Because she’s married to a Supreme Court justice, her house is also his house. Her income is also his income and must be reported. She’s not quite a private citizen, but not entirely bound by judicial standards. Fair or not, her activities can cast the appearance of impropriety on him.

Oh, pp knows that. They’re aware that Alito looks real dirty here and so they seek to cast blame.

Even though the Christian nationalist flag flew long enough at Alito’s beach house that it was caught on Google street view. That’s not an accident, that’s that white supremacist dirtbag advertising his contempt for America and all that she stands for.

You are 100% correct but they cannot comprehend this. They have a middle school level understanding of rights. Black and white.

Technically the sacred symbol is different, including a 45 degree rotation.

Yes, we all know this. Go ahead and fly the sacred symbol and see how far that gets you.

Alito will probably do as the pp suggests though and fly it. He’s got millions of flying monkeys to tell us that it doesn’t mean what we think it means.

Because obviously his wife, being a woman and all, is incapable of independent thought. Love how democrats show their misogyny without even realizing it.

There is no nuance with "is she a private citizen". It is either yes or no. There is no complexity around it, she is her own person, not property of her husband and is allowed free speech.
